back in cottonwood, az
heard a slight knocking noise out in the middle of nowhere. backed off til i rejoined group. stopped, restarted, ran 3 more miles (not knocking anymore) to wait for rest of group. shut off, never restarted. found that knocking noise was prolly the disintegrating cam bearing (left side). after replacing bearing, noted distinct lack of compression. pulled it down to find top and middle piston rings stuck hard on the piston  wtf? after freeing them, end gap appears to be a tad loose (.017). is it the delo oil i just started running a couple of months ago? or is it grit from the chewed-up cam bearing retainer? there seems to be a gritty substance inside the ring land which i will get a closer look at tomorrow. whadda ya think? :?
