Stock headlight sucks, so I ordered a better one.

Last week I found out how worthless the stock headlight is when it gets dark after a ride with a few friends lasted longer than expected. I considered a few options, like an H4 bulb, but in the end I want the best for my berg. ;)

So I splurged and went for the Baja Designs squadron. Actually got it for a great deal from ebay, $255 and it comes with the headlight plastic as well. Can't wait to check out this light. Hopefully it will be a lot brighter than stock.

A few friends of mine both with KTM SMC 640 have changed the stock headlight for one of those and they said the difference was literally from night to day.

I've recently changed the stock headlight on mine for a EXC headlight (same plastic mask as the picture you posted) and noticed the same. Light is not the strongest point of it. I'm yet to test it in the dark and if I find it hard to see I'll most probably end up going for those kits.

I will be keen to know how that light goes too. I had to get off the track and ride the last ten km back on the road the other day because i ran out of light! The standard light really is a joke! There are so many different lighting set ups available for so many different prices, its hard to know which ones are worth buying so some first hand input would be great!

Quick update: I received this headlight on Friday, which was sooner than I expected. I turns out that it isn't a direct fit for my bike, apparently I would have to change the front fender to the newer KTM one. I like the smaller headlight mask that my bike uses over the KTM one so I'm just gonna modify it to make it work.

I hooked it up thought to see how bright it is. It does come ready to hook up, but there is only an on and off option. When turned on the light is way to bright for street use, it's blindingly bright!

There are a few options for a dimmer that will give you a high and low beam. Once I get one of those I will work on getting it mounted to the bike. Should look sweet.

Is it led lights? Looks like that. If so I can recommend this "dimmer": Skene Design Motorcycle Visibility Lights

I use one myself and I also hooked it up to the unused turn indicator switch. That way I have 4 settings available. High beam gives 100% and when I'm on low beam I can use the turn indicator to send out 50%, 30% or 10%. The reason is that I prefer 50% in the night but some cars find that too much so I can easilly go to 30% which is ok for both the car and me. When I meet friends on a trail in the middle of the night I can go down to 10% so I don't have to blind them. Very handy :)
It's also very quick to program the strength by just using the hi-lo beam switch if one want to adjust it.

Have you fitted the light on your bike?
I looked at the same light on ebay but the seller told me that it would not fit my Husaberg FE 450 2009.
If you have used it could you take some pictures and show us how you did it? ;)

Regards

Glenn :)
