hey guys, I have an '03 fe 400 and I'm presuming the stator has carked it wich other than being 800 aussie dollars doesn't really bother me as I have had heaps of troubles in the past and I've learned to build a bridge and get over it. Anyway back to the stator, why do they die. I've read a few threads on here on how to test them but couldnt find a reason why they would stop working.

any ideas?

The CDI Charge and Trigger Pulse coils are wound with extreemly fine magnet wire (41 gague).

The engine vibrations and thermal cycling finally breaks the wire some where in the windings or terminations and causes the problems.

Joe

does this happen regularly as the bike may be 3 years old but it's done less than 150 hours.

Thanks for the fast reply mate.

Thanks for the fast reply mate.

My last one failed in just 40.8 hours on my 00FE 501E, but the original one lasted 194.5 hours and the second one lasted 123.5 hours.

From my luck the ones on the shelf seem to be getting old just sitting there!

SEM is no longer manufacturing them so I have no idea where the dealers are getting them.

Regareds,

Joe

Just had my second one go, 180 hrs the first and 200 the second, both new. The 2nd cost $180 but as you know no longer available. Just got the better of the two rewound by Small Coil Rewinds in Geelong Vic who have a good reputation, for $350. 10 days turn around. Will finish putting it back together tomorrow and get ready for racing AMCROSS this weekend.

Reconditioned Stators

Give suttos a call in Penrith NSW as they usually have a reconditioned on in stock.
About $375, I am on my third stator and I now keep one spare in garage.

RE: Reconditioned Stators

sounds like these are the bergs weak point. can any alternator joint re wire these or should I stick to people alredy recognised for being succesfull, even if they are 3000 k's away?

RE: Reconditioned Stators

definately stick to the specialists. they have spent a long while studying WHY and HOW to repair them. they have test results etc.

Taffy

I most certainly would stick to the experts. I had mine done by some mob out of Melbourne can't remember there name at the moment but i think they have an add in the back of ADB.
Just put it in an overnight bag and you should be right think mine only took about a week to get back and i have had no problems since.
They told me my bike may be a bit harder to start as they use a larger gauge wire than the factory but i have had no problems starting it with the kick.
Good luck

seems to be true. Most of the rewinding places up here in townsville shreik and run. haha nah not really they just say "yeah we'll send it away" and if you ask how much you either get a shrug of the shoulders or a grunt.

dunno I'll keep looking. ADB ya reckon, I've got six hundred million of them at home I'l have a look.

Thanks guys, nice to speak to people who know what they're on about.

Yeah they had an add in the back there some where i will have a look and try and find the receipt tonight and let you know who they are and where they are.

I'll see if it works. if it does then I'll pass on his name if not I'll ring him up and piss in his ear.

welcome to the site sparks

as this is a self help group i'm sure we'd appreciate a little input with that plug!

interesting address in that link. bradford in spain. mmmmm! and i thought it was ...

please put husaberg in your web speil.

i remember making contact with you years ago i think. i used to get that roadracing paper in the early eighties and kept your ad. i was trying to fit a motoplat to the half speed shaft of a ducati pantah F2 600cc. it was hard work. no budget, lots of questions.

if you do a search here you'll find we have good contacts in portugal, australia and sweden. all with connections to get the SEM right and mostly better thann new.

regards

Taffy

Cheers Taffy Thanks for the reply don't remember you but a lot of wire has gone under the bridge since then then

howdy bud, Can you make up replacements cheaper than new or do you need a cactus one for the casings and other bits. I'm looking for a spare for when the one I'm getting repaired dies.

Is there anything we as riders can do to prolong the life of these tempramental little buggers?
Cheers mate

G'day Ferret,

Yes I need the orignial staor to work on but just hang fire for a week I have a guy in France sending me a load of SEM staors down he's not sure what models there off so if there are any Husabergs one's in there I will drop you a line.
No there's nothing you can do really it's just the luck of the draw to how long they last. It's not realy a water thing but every time it's been power washed or out in heavy water just drop off the cover so it can breath.
I think Joe sumed it up in this thread earlier vibration and heat are the two main killers.

Regards

Sparks.
