shock rebound adjuster tool

Has anyone got a cleaver way of accessing the rebound adjuster on the shock? My last 3 rides have been in pouring rain, slop and mud. I'm getting to where I am fairly comfortable at adjusting the fork compression by feel, rather than lying on my back visually observing the screw roatating, but no so with the shock. I find my self frustrated trying to get the mud away from the adjuster andthen trying to get a good view of the adjuster to get a screw driver lined up to turn the adjuster (it's kind of buried down in hte swingarm). So far, the best I have come up with is using a flat bit driver with a 1/4 head on it (for screw driver with replaceble tips) and turning it with a 1/4 end wrench. I'm thinking of making my own tool with a flat bit on each end, but rotated 90 degrees from each other, sacrifcing a couple of hex key wrenches, even making a cable screw driver. Something that lines up square with the slot and allows me positive contact while having poor visable access due to lack of light and abundant mud is a necessity. I bet someone makes a tool like I want.
Please share your wisdom

i have a long thin screwdriver. it's both thin in body and narroness of tip. it has never burred a screw so i'll swear by it.

my tip is to lift the plastic swingarm protector up and feed the screwdriver through between the two.

the rebound is susceptable to seizing BTW.

Taffy

That's what I have been doing too, but I can't always tell when it is aligned good enough to turn.

Taffy's trick plus grind slight angel in tip of screwdriver so that it fits into adjusting screw flat this keeps it from binding and allows you to get a slight feel of the clicks .
Also wedge the handle of another screwdriver under the swingarm protector to hold it up high enough to not restrict the adjusting screwdriver .

Tool for rear shock rebound

Yes it is in a tight spot,
What I found suited me was to get an hex key or allen key about 5mm with a 90 degree bend in it , grind the end into a flat blade srew drive rshape that will fit into the slot of the adjuster and then cut the other end off shorter as well and it will give you great access to the adjuster then.
The size of the one I use is 25mm from the tip of the cut in slot to the outside of the bend, then the handle side is about 40-42 mm from the outside of the bend. When looking down on the newly ginded tip, it is at 90 degrees to the handle end.( Might pay to have a practice at grinding up a tip first so you dont cut it to short or stuff up the shape of the slot.)The short 40mm handle also gives off a good feel of the adjustment clicks.

Heres another tool that I use for the fuel bowl nut on the 04s, just cut down a 17mm ring spanner so it is 60-70mm in lenght, makes quick easy work to get the drain plug out .
