This is message to all you guys talking and having problems with SEM stators I have been rewinding Motoplat and SEM stators for 15 years. If it's the reliabilty it's not a problem I will give 12 month warranty on all my rewinds. If interested drop me a line.

Hello Sparks, welcome to UHE.

Do you use the same number of turns and wire gauge as SEM does on their stators for 1999 through 2003Husaberg?

What DC resistance do you get for the Red-Black and Green-Black leads?

Regards,

Joe

Sparks, hello and welcome!

Can you please tell me what kind of turn around time, us in the states, are looking at for a rebuild? I have never sent anything overseas so I would not know how long it would take to receive a stator back once it was dropped in the mailbox leaving for you.... two weeks, a month??? This is a very promising alternative to replacing the SEM unit every three years or so and I will probably be looking to have my '02 SEM stator replaced/rewound in the very near future as mine is aproaching its fourth year without servicing. Any comments or feedback you can give us would be gladly welcomed.

Regards,

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply, yes I use the same gauge wire as the original 0.71mm but the enamel is of better quality this is the down fall of most ignitions they use grade 1 wire where I use grade 2. The 2 means it goes through 2 enameling processes this is what gives the reliability. There is 420 Ohms on each coil in total around 1700 Ohms between red and black and the start and finish of each coil is terminated different.

Best regards

Sparks

Hi Joe,

Sorry i have quoted you the resistance figure for the VOR the Husaberg stator resistance should be red black 3000 and green black 260.

Hello sparks,

Specifications for 1999-2003 Sems stator

If I am not mistaken, the SEMs OEM wire gage is #41, the diameter is 0.071mm not 0.71mm and the finished Red-Black DC resistance is 3000 + - 300 ohms; the finished Green-Black DC resistance is 168 + - 16.8 ohms not 260 ohms.

I don't know how many turns on each bobbin, but when Kick starting the Red-Black unloaded output is over 30 VAC and the Green-Black is over 3 VAC as measured with a digital multimeter when the stator is new. These VAC values are very important for the function of the SEMs CDI.

So, what are your values again for the materials and finished DC resistance values for your rewound 1999-2003 Sems stators?

Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Must of had a clumsy finger and a bit of brain fade should of pressed the 1 key not the 2. And yes the wire gauge is 0.071mm not .71mm you wouldn't get many turns on the bobbin using .71mm.
As for using a measured voltage by kicking it over I don't think this is a very accurate way of doing things because it's all relative to how fast you kick the engine over leg muscles come in all different sizes, do you see what I am getting at.
Hope this reply has satisfied and added to your expert knowledge!!!!

Hi Sparks,

Not quite, you still haven't answered the question.

"So, what are your values again for the finished DC resistance values for your rewound 1999-2003 Sems Husaberg stators?" Look in your log book and let us know what the last 5 or 6 stators Red-Black resistance and Green-Black resistance were.

Several of us, myself included, have had stators rewound and have had very bad to unacceptable results because the services used larger diameter wire (#38 or even larger diameter is some cases), and the stators would not produce enough voltage to start the bike under any circumstances.

I agree that the voltage out while kick starting the Berg is a function of the speed of the kick, but thats not relevant here. The 30 VAC and 3VAC are real numbers, achieved with good stators, as we were trouble shooting hard starting and performance problems later associated with stator failures.

DC winding resistance is a real number also if you use #41 magnet wire and put the correct number of turns on the bobbins you will get the same resistance values specified by SEM. The numbers I specified for DC resistance are in the Husaberg 1999 Workshop Manual

Joe

Hi Joe,

I don´t know if you are questioning my integrity here or what I can under stand the problems people like your self must of had by having ignition stators serviced by untrained unprofessional people. I am a qualified armature winder and have been since 1978, and have also had the pleasure of working in your great country some years ago up in New Haven Connecticut.

And back to you question again, my rewound DC resistance figures are
up to 1998
BLACK & RED 1750 Ohms
BLACK & GREEN 23 Ohms

1999 to 2003
BLACK & RED 2900 TO 3000 Ohms
BLACK & GREEN 160 TO 17O Ohms

Obviously these resistance figure are measured at 20 degrees C.
Hope this puts your mind at rest.

Best regards

Much better Sparks thanks,

What are your prices including any import duties in Spain and return postage to the western USA?

Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Total price including post will be $220. When they turn up they are usually in my possecion for two days and back in the mail. Regular mail is about 7 to ten days.
I am trying to get a stock of these so if you were to want one I could send you one straight out I would have to put a surcharge on this until I received your duff one. If any one requires my contact details they are all on my web site

I don't need one right now but just for future reference how much would a SEM cost that you've re-wound without receiving a replacement failed unit, incase someone wanted to carry a spare.

what a good thread sparks. i'll put this in 'the doc' as a link in the future. thanks for the help and hope you get some business.

Hi Taffy,

Thanks for the prase, I can also rewind KTM SEM stators to Husaberg spec early or late, which gives it a bit more scope to getting hold of a blown stator for me to rewind and sell to the customer as a spare.

Hi Kzoo,

I don't have enough to do this at the moment but if you read the thread I wrote to Taffy mybe if you came across blown KTM stator I could wind it up for you, it's getting hold of blowns thats the problem.

Hi LeFrog,

All I need is some street cred, so I have decided to rewind a one off of 1 stator for anyone in the forum for $100 plus post. and for them to give a review on guality and endurance, you might say I'm laying down the gauntlet.

Regards

Sparks

I have a spare bad stator, would you be interested in that as some sort of a trade towards getting my other bad stator rewound?

Hi Sparks,

I'll take you up on your offer.

Will ship you a 2000 Husaberg stator ( CDI charge circuit is open circuited) to your address in Spain. Please rewind it to the 1999-2003 Husaberg specifications.
