I know Dez has asked ability of the riders but I am trying to help with some of the planning.. you know we get 80 bikers together and we cant decide what who is going when so...............

Who has a garmin gps

who has a plated bike and wants to go on some 100 mile loops going through the parks we wont have to trailer

who is willing to be a group leader.... remember with 80 guys the groups that get large are not as much fun .........You dont have to know the area like the back of your hand.. we have maps and more are available in Moab.... I will bring a lap top to down load garmin tracks into your gps .. these have been ridden tracks not routes.

Im not trying to be in charge.. just trying to get a little flexible planning up front.

Come on step up guys.. we need at least 8 groups............ dont be shy

Good Idea, I have a plated scooter. 100 mile loop is an issue for me. Thats quite a long time without any beer. What type of container are guys using to carry spare fuel.

I'll help in any way I can. Do we know how many A,B,C riders we have? If it is like other other group rides I have been on, the majority will be b/c, right? I will have my Garmin GPS, but it is a Quest and it is a PITA to download tracks into. However, with a good map and someone to at least point me in the right direction, I am sure I can manage.

I was hoping to hook up with one of the groups riding the most technical terrain. I would prefer a group that wants to put in a good amount of trail miles at a good pace. Not 6 Days special test fast, just a good steady pace. Just realize I have never been to the Moab area ever.

I think the first step we need to do is figure out how many riders of each class we have, and then go from there.

Bobzilla,Et All,
I am willing to help, As I Told Dez my knowledge of Moab is limited, but having been a couple of times and my brother a bit more than me. We have a nice long C ride "White Rim Loop" We're plated so we ride out from Slick Rock (no trailer) the trail goes way out into the Canyon Lands Nat'l Monument it's about 120 miles to gas then another 8? back into town.I did it with stock tank, under seat aux. and sponging some off my Honda freinds with the 27 gallon or whatever they are tanks.(Where are those big tanks???)
Have another one same thing out of camp out to "Metal Masher" / Gemini Bridges not nearly as far but it has some off the classic slickrock terrain. Mabe more a B/C thing ?We have maybe another day beyond that, that we could discuss once there. For those who have never been if you have a small camera BRING IT Moab will not dissappoint. Looking forward to it down to counting the days

Later
Ron

I am a B/C rider, but my range is about 50-60 miles on the stock tank. I have no knowlage of the area, but am not against leading a ride.

I think we should have people post to this thread there skill level. This may help setting up the groups.
A- Yeah....I rode ISDE. I dropped out because I was looking for something a little more challenging.
B- I aspire to ride ISDE....as soon as Husaberg steps up with some decent factory support.
C- I can unload my bike out of the truck all by myself.
D- I'm only here for the beer.....what do you mean you want me to start my bike?? If I start it does that mean I have to ride it??

Put me down for D, C if I have to.

I am going to lead a group, and have no intention of doing a 100 mile high speed day. I have rides planned to ride lots of technical stuff, lots of incredible sights. I have a plated bike, stock tank. I have never had a fuel problem. There will be groups for those with a desire to practice for Baja or Paris-Dakar. Some days may be as low as 40-50 miles. Some days it will be an AM ride, back to fuel-lunch-beverage of choice-tell lies, and off for the PM loop. Trust me, riders of all ability will have fun, and be challenged, when riding on these trails. With so many coming to Moab for the first and maybe only time, I plan to ride the loops that are most unique to Moab.

Exactly...

100 mile day is not high speed but probalby more for the C rider that wants to see some real nice sights and view some of the parks points of interest. I am only throwing it out there cause last time we had more than a few who wanted a easy ride with plenty of photo ops. My experienced in Moab is that a lot of the riding is trails like with some special obsticles that while most dont find hard ,at first they are intimadating. The plated long orute will have none of that but some good stuff to see.

i've got a garmin mounted on the bike. i will be able to download tracks. as far as level of rider: well, started racing as a senior, after a few years got demoted to a senior b; then super senior b. nowadays, since i can get the bike out of the truck by myself, but require help putting it back, i guess that qualifies me as "old c".

bobzilla,
i have a garmin with a radio built in that shows where other riders are who
have the same type of gps.
does this help?
tuts

Thursday morning,B/C (delusions of grandeur) after that C/D and cooking on Friday afternoon. Also have a Garmin Rino with Walkie-Talkie, could be useful with other riders with a Rino. Claimed 5 mile range, same as tuts I think.

I have a Magellan, If one were to purchase a second unit what would be a good inexpensive Garmin? I would have to slip this one past momma

I have volunteered to guide,I havent rode in moab directly but know the terrain.I have a lot of guiding experience. 20 years on the colorado 500,I could go on and on.but some how some way I would sure like to be involved. thanks

Fritz,
I can guarantee that Dez will be happy to put your name on the list of leaders.

Put me on the list C & D riders, due to the fact that I haven't ridden my bike in 2 years. I may feel like riding with a C or B group later in the week.

Mike

All garmin users. BIRNG YOUR CORD in case I dont have the right one. I am using a 60csx. I think ( but im dum about puter stuff) that all the garmins will be able to download the tracks. Even if your memory aint big I can still put R&Rec and the tracks for the day on your unit.

Now we got the Fritz Velo and FRY miesters we can have three FAST groups and 7 OFG (Old Fat Guy) groups

You cant count on me for Fridays afternoon ride.........Ill be busy

i'll lead some rides. there's another kind of group besides the ones listed, which includes folks like me. not necessarily blazing fast, but decent technical skills and a love of technical riding, unlikely to get stuck, and mostly riding (3-ish breaks in a 80-100 mile ride) rather than stopping for lots of breaks. brendan seems to fit into that group, and i'd guess johnf3 fits into that group too.

it appears at this point that i will be bringing the girl, so i'll probably want to lead 2 fun scenic interesting rides with her along, and 1 long hard fun interesting ride that'll probably be longer than she wants to do, especially sandwiched between 2 other pretty good rides.

note that the gps tracks in garmin and nat'l geographic format are still posted on the mighty motosapiens website. the link is in some other thread around here.

Just my 2cents, but if I rode 50 miles a day and had a good combination of scenic and technical, I would be happy, but I also do not know how quickly one can rack-up miles in this kind of terrain. I am looking for a vacation and a good time, not a test of how many miles can be racked up in four days.I am sure that others will fall into this category as well. Not a puss, just need to get away from here and have fun.
