Rekluse clutches

Hi Guys.
I have just installed a rekluse auto clutch in my 04 650. The standard clutch lever has been removed to help me get used to it.
I followed the break in procedure as per instructions but find the bike creeps slightly when in gear.
According to the instructions this can happen and it says it usually stops after a few rides.
Have any of you rekluse users experienced this and if so how long did it last?
The bike is near impossible to get into nuetral now whilst motor is running, which pisses me off as that was one of the things I liked about the 04.
the bike sets off virtually as soon as the throttle is moved

What setup are you using? I got the creep out of mine but it took alot of experimenting. I just could not accept the creep as being normal. As far as nuetral goes, it has always been difficult if not imposible to find while running on all of my Berg's.

I put a Rekluse in my 02 501 last summer. It worked perfectly right off the bat. You might double check the clearance between the discs, and the idle speed. Mine engages right off idle. If that checks out,it might be your oil. I've used nothing but Red line synthetic in my 501 and never had any problems, auto or manual. My old husky 610 however, was very sensitive to oil. It would drag badly if it didn't have synthetic oil in it.
I'd like to add that the auto clutch is one of the best modifications I've ever done to a motocycle. Right after putting it in, I spent a week flogging up and down the mountains of central Idaho. When you're hanging on the side of a 500' canyonand tryin to get moving over a wet log, it pays for itself very quickly.

rekluse

Hi Gix,

Did you buy the Rekluse in the UK? If so where from and how much?

Thanks, brookester

Brookester mate, yes I did buy in the UK.... My initial enquiry was with the uk importer pro supermotoRekluse UK and I met him at 3 sisters to try a kitted bike of his.
After trying it and deciding I wanted one...he pointed me to DCR ( DAVE CLARKE RACING) and Dave did me a 'special' price as I race using his colours,
Expect to pay around the £350 mark but it is always negotiable,, even from pro supermoto. BTW the 04 kit is dearer for some reason...

The clutch dragging has now virtually gone, I just lowered the tickover slightly. I have taken it for a spin around the block and all seems well but the real test will be this weekend at a trackday 8O

rekluse

Hi Gix,
Thanks for that info, what did Clarkey charge you for it, the amount of Husabergs i`ve had off Dave i`m sure he would after me.

sorry mate, much as I'd like to say I dont want to drop myself in it with him as he does help me out.
The 04 kits retails at £399 so if you get one for 350 you're doing well...I know he has a couple sat on the shelf, but hey, they aren't making him any money sat there are they ?
Get on the phone and do some dealing

Well what can I say ???????
The best bit of kit I have bought for my bike so far !!!!
Clutch lever has been removed, and I have been at a trackday all day testing the rekluse..brilliant.
No arm pump from trying to slip the clutch, controlled powerslides out of corners, next to no downshift rear end patter meaning you can run in deeper and just throw it on its ear without worry about what the rear end is doing. Even wheelies are much easier to control through the box.
The only bad point about it is ....I didnt get one last year :)
I haven't tried it on the dirt yet but if it performs so well on tarmac then it should be even better on the dirt..go get one

I would highly recommend using a petroleum based diesel 15/40 oil such as DELO 400 or Rotella and not to use synthetic oil. Synthetic oils tend to induce too much slippage in auto clutches, especially in the Rekluse auto clutch. The Rekluse clutch slips more than than the RevLoc clutch under high rpm full power applications. Indeed Rekluse itself recommends using petroleum based diesel oil with their clutches.

I did read in the installation instructions about rekluse's recommendation of diesel engine oil, rather than fully synthetic...........
This goes against the husaberg grain I think and I'm a bit reluctant to run my bike on anything less than a fully synthetic(putoline at present) bearing in mind my bike is used for racing supermoto.
The rekluse doesn't have excessive slip using my current oil and I feel that providing the engine is warmed correctly it shouldnt cause any probs....
Any advice from others would be welcome on this

The oil question goes on and on. I have run both the Delo and the Motrex synthetic 10/50 as recommended. I can tell no difference in performance between the two. Since I change my oil every ride or every other at the most I prefer the Delo. $1.50 a quart vs. $10.00 a quart is something to think about. I dont think oil quality is the issue. Keeping the oil clean is the priority. If I am going on a long ride or trip and the ambient temps are very high 100F plus, I will run the Motrex.
Just my opinion.

Berger,
I do believe that you have solved the ,so called ,oil question.,clean oil is better than dirty oil.done. :D ....nsman

Hi Gix,
Had a word with D.C.R. he`s flogging them for about £350. Ordering one next week. What are they like to fit and how long does it take to set them up? It will be going on a 05 550, if that makes any difference.

Thanks brookester

Hi brookester,

They are relatively simple to fit , no more difficult than fitting a standard clutch set.
With the Bergs having the clutch access cover it is very easy to get to and you only need to remove the gear selector. The critical thing when setting them up is the 'installed gap' which is the gap between the plates and you really need 2 sets of angled feeler gauges to do this. If you havent got the angled guages, get some, otherwise you have to take off the whole side case....
Once installed it is very easy to set up and tune to your liking....you can alter it by using the different springs supplied and varying the amount of ball bearings used.
One word of advice....if you are gonna put your bike on its side to work on it when setting up.. turn off the fuel and run all the fuel out ...I found mine leaked fuel from the vents into the catch tank and then sucked it back again through a different vent causing a pain in the arse misfire

i see that rekluse sell them for $529. can anyone beat that? i'll order me one if i can and collect over there.

regards

Taffy

Hi Taffy,

I have a new Recluse Z-start set up, for a 01-03 Berg. I run this
Bike everywhere from rooted out hill climbs and mile long rock
beds to open MX tracks,SX tracks and arena style events. I can
not picture this clutch system being suited to all these situations,
without constantly having to change the set-up internally.
If your interested please P/M me you will save some money and
we can figure out how to get it to you.

Regards,
Ryan

ok. i've fitted and just blatted the rekluse clutch that i bought off husabergler whilst in the states. it ran fine and neutral was easy to find and it snicked the gears really easy as well. that was just for a mile on a green lane so that's no test.

tomorrow i will test it at the track.

according to the instructions i can make it bite/engage sooner by adjusting the manual adjuster, BUT I DON'T HAVE ONE?

it also says i can reduce the slippage upon engagement by using the weaker spring. i had two springs and two washers but i didn't bother using a washer coz they forgot to put that in the instructions. I FOLLOWED THEM EXACTLY!

anyway, if i put the shorter spring in, that's also the softer spring right? and the slip and take up will be quicker right?

that leaves this question of how soon it should engage and my non-existant engagement perch.

on another note.
if all is good tomorrow i intend to go to left bar rear brake and get rid of the foot brake completely. anyone already got the pipe dimensions and angles? i can do it easy but i'm asking.

next, i'm told that the magura mastercylinder is fine and does a good job. all i need to do is use DOT 5.1 brake fluid which is fully synthetic and will work with the seals in the magura mastercylinder, yes?

can't wait!

regards

Taffy

Well, the perch adjustment is for cable operated clutchs. The number of "heavy balls can also be varied to adjust how hard the clutch bites. It took 5 or 6 tries to bet mine where I wanted it. It's been flawless since.
