so this brake only has 1 cotter pin, and appears to have 1 allen screw looking thing on the left side holding the pin in. naturally it's extremely flimsy and stripped out instantly when i tried to get wrench on it and turn it. before i completely ruin my entire rear brake caliper, can someone give me some smart advice? i whacked on it with a punch from each side, and it doesn't seem to move. i drilled and dremeled the remnants of the flimsy aluminum 'screw' from the left side, and still doesn't seem to be going anywhere. help!

turned out it went out towards the right, but you have to pound the crap out of it from the left to knock the pin loose. it's got some kind of snap-friction fit lame-*** arrangement. pointless imho. also the aluminum 'screw' seemed kinda pointless. whatever. it works now, so i can replace my brake pads. sheesh.

Next time you'll use a C-clamp, a flat tipped nail and a socket on the back side rather than pound the liv'in crap out of it, won't you? :D Yeah, the first time's a *****!

Hmmmmmmm,

An upgrade that wasn't mentioned. I take it the aluminum screw is used to retain the pin, and the kotter pin is used to keep the pin in place. Sounds like everyone better put a dab of anti sieze on this screw straight away to make removal easier.

Sorry to hear that you had so much grief Velo.

i'm not even sure the aluminum screw is really supposed to screw out, but it's on the other side of the brake from the cotter pin. imho, it has no purpose whatsoever. i'm just gonna leave it off. even the cotter pin is overkill for as much force as it takes to get the brake pin out. lol.
