Just rode an 06 650e awesome bike.

Great power great handling.

Dealer has brand new 05 650e for considerably cheaper with 12months warranty.

Dealer says only tank and radiator shrouds are different.

Hoping so as the 06 was right on the money for handling and suspension.

In particuler he seems to think suspension and motor are same is this true?

Also dealer reckons he has customers that have done 10000kms on an 05 is this just pure luck or whats the lifespan likely to be before major rebuild?

i was looking at the 06 model , it has to be the most desirable bike on the market . they have small improvements , nothing major.and i cant speak for everybody but my 650 04 has close to
9000klms , 127 hours and all is well.
a major rebuild is not far away , i will rebuild before it grenades .

Thanks Whosaberg for the info.
Was hoping i could get a few more people to answer as well.
Will wait and see what others have to say.

I rode both the 05 and 06 back to back at the Reno dealer show last fall. The only real noticable difference ,other than looks, was the suspension and the 06 was a little stiffer in the beginning of the stroke. Both of these bikes work very well and I would buy either one. Good Luck

I have an 05 FS650E with 3300 miles and 130 engine hours.

No problemos to report.

Aside from some different plastics and very minor updates I believe the 06 bikes are very much the same.

If you can save money on an 05 model I say go for it.

Thanks for the info guys.

Hope to hear from a few more owners, mechanics etc from the forum

alot of the most knowledgeable guys, sans taffy, are either on a ride or returning from a ride this week. give it a few more days.. someone will let you know...

or you can PM Dan at motoxotica, he knows the differences...

edit.
Sorry, no disrespect to the countless other Knowledgeable guys on this board..

I'm at 1195 miles, 66.1 hours. No engine problems, just had fork seals replaced, one side started leaking a little.

Ok i will keep waiting.

I have also emailed Dan to see wether he can take a look at this thread and enlihgten us all.

In a nutshell your dealer is correct. You will not go wrong purchasing the 2005.

Look at the factory site husaberg.se , spells out all the changes in detail. Doesn't look very extensive compared to the last couple of years. If the 05 is much cheaper I'd vote to buy it.

ok faktor , looking at all the info now is the time to step up to the plate and cough up the reddies , the spondoolies , and make your dreams become reality . there is a brand new 05 weapon sitting in the showroom with your name on it :iagree:

Alot of the info i have asked is for my Orange friend who after riding the berg reckons it is the best bike he has ridden. He is thinking very hard about buying one and trading his 03 525 KTM EXC. However is very concenerned about lonngeviety of the engine. Given the problems we have had here in the Australian Mallee with the 2001 2002 2003 650E Husabergs doing mains and handgrenading, More than i would like to mention. As well as 04 and 05 550s doing the same on a few occasions. Not sure if it is the open desert etc that does it. Have heard rumour that the 04 and 05 and 06 550E Bergs all have a 525 crank in them and that this eventually flexes (so says the dealer hear after talking with Berg Australia at a meeting in Januaury. Where they pulled a bike apart etc.) So we really want longevity of 05 650E Berg should be around similar to a KTM EXC? Thats why we have asked so many questions. All i know is i loved it compared to my FE400 2002.

Can anymore of you guys enlighten us on the 05 model etc.
Post your kms for us?

All 2 stroke style pressed together cranks are similar, but since the Husaberg has the counterbalance on the crank vs a separate balancer shaft on a KTM, I really doubt they are the same crank. The stroke is different as well....KTM is 72MM, Husaberg is 70.7MM. Even if they are somewhat similar, don't see many KTM cranks out, and most of the guys I ride with here ride 520's and 525's. Can't remember if it was 04 or 05 that they reduced the stroke on the 650 to allow more meat around the crank pin to increase reliability. 05 definitely has the new crank though. 04 had more oiling to the crank/counterbalancer and 05 had more oil applied to the balancer drive shaft. Husaberg has definitely been updating these engines and the new ones have been doing much better.

I just heard throgh the grapevine that HMS Motorsports (Peter Hardsteen) just bought a boat load of '05 650's. I heard 60 bikes (FE's FS's and FC's). Not sure if it's true or not yet, but I hear they will priced to sell. Just thought I give everybody a heads-up.
PS: I have no involvement in this.

EDIT; What I heard last night 2/7/06 is that all the bikes are Motard. He will convert to enduro if you want. Price is $5900.00

Would be good to hear from some Aussies or internationals that ride desert trails alot etc.
Excellent info i did know about the 05 reduced crank thanks guys.
