piston i wanted; 'tall boy'

i've been assessing pistons and dimensions for some time and as i sell stuff i have had a problem i couldn't cure till today!

basically, all the old pistons from the 470, 550 and 650s have a deck 12.7-13.3 above the gudgeon pin.

the 2004+ 550 shares the 13.3 measurement but the 450 is 14.3 and domed while the 650 is 14.3 and dished.

no aftermarket pistons would appear to be available for the last two engines.

however, i now have one in stock. it is 14.3mm and it is mildly domed at 2mm. it also has the same depth pockets as the OEM. n o, i won't say what it's off except to say that it's made by woessner.

now the 470 aftermarket rod i do is actually 1mm shorter so now this piston with that rod kit will work. named after the neuclear bomb i'm calling it the 'tall boy'.

an oem 450 rod is £284 and the piston is £254 making it £538. my rod is £170 and the piston £150 for a total of £320.

the compression of the 450 comes down a fraction as the dome on that is about 3mm high and it's 2mm on this kit. the dome is the same as the 470s though.

i can't wait to try it in a 2004+ 550 (with a mill off the squish) or even a 650. i think i would like to plain the crown flat initially and then plain it to 1mm dome before going the whole hog....

i am trying to get the ignition sorted as i think a 650 with all this is going to cry....

anyway, it has made my bloody day! i look forward to some of you ******* wanting to try it ASAP!!!

Just for "technical clarification". Fat man and Little boy were the first atomic bombs designed at the Manhattan Project. Tall boy was a conventional weapon designed by the Britts.
I think the better definnition for "tall boy: would be you favorite 24oz adult beverage in a can.
Not to confuse any *******.......

'tallboy' 10 tonne conventional dumb bomb designed by barnes wallis, he of the bouncing bomb fame, also nicknamed earthquake bomb as wallis designed it to penetrate the earth prior to exploding underground so that the contained explosion wou d do more damage to the targets, a similar principal to that used with the dam busters.

you could also say that it was an early fore- runner to the modern small diameter bunker buster bombs of today.

here endeth the lesson.

oh well, i did it au natural, guess i need to watch out for google geeks next time!

no excuses from now on for not having absolutely any comp you want on a husaberg with a 100mm bore. i think that there were three to choose from and now there are 5. the only piston i can't get is the dished 628 piston. i can get that dead flat with a proper squish and i can machine some out the middle as an experiment but i have checked and a 0.5mm dish makes the crown 6mm thick; the same as the mahle that failed on Mats.

i guess a thinner crown on a std runner would be fine while a tuned engine would want more material there anyway.

the dish is 1.9mm deep BTW.

Taffy you crack me up, your marketing lingo is first class.

Maybe you should contact your local dissability center and tell them you have a new sales pitch they ought to try.
