This weekend my piston broke() , so I am in despered need of a new one...

Does anyone know a brand who manufactures a perfect piston with good quality and fair price? Or should I just buy a new husaberg one (wich only lasted for 60 hours...)

If possible I would buy one with better throtle response, but prefer not to change anything else.

your opinions please...

I would go with the 470 piston, never had any mishaps with standard Husaberg pistons.

RE: Re: Piston for Husaberg FE 650cc 2005

My husaberg FE 650 '05 had 60 hours of operation (3000km).
I ride my supermotard 80% on normal road, 15% circuit and 5% off road.

I regurarly change oil and filters (as I help out in bike shop in the weekend...)
Driving style is normal to a bit agressive. Pulling a wheelie is still fun hé...

I weigh over a 100 kilos so I guess the bike is sometimes put up to the test.
Last time I filled here up I used super 95 instead of 98, but all of my husa friends are using both (at the same gas station) so no issue in there...

RE: Re: Piston for Husaberg FE 650cc 2005

Magnusson: I have no idea what U mean with 470 (as my bike is 650cc)

RE: Re: Piston for Husaberg FE 650cc 2005

470 piston is also 100mm but has more material on top.

please read the owners doc under tuning. not an enormous amount on 650s but it does mention that plus con rod lengths for you to think about.

Taffy

RE: Re: Piston for Husaberg FE 650cc 2005

What would the effects be if I install the 470 piston and where can I find the part number?
(It is a original husaberg part wright? And the difference is 3mm)
Original con rod must do because new one is to expensive for me...

RE: Re: Piston for Husaberg FE 650cc 2005

the piston has nothing to do with throttle response by the way.

yes it is an OEM part.

go into downloads and go back to 2001-2003 parts books. you'll see the part number in there.

you'll gain everywhere but especially at midrange.

yes

and don't ask by how much - i don't know! fact is that 650 compression is nothing like claimed but with the 470 piston it may make it coime true!

Piston.

Hallo.

I would not use the old 470cc piston, we used that one years ago when the conrod was 1mm shorter (2001-2002) 134mm instead as now 135mm on the 650cc.
Today you will have the best result with the OEM 2006-2007 650cc piston, its much lighter than all other brands on the market, made by Elko, and you can get it in two versions depending on the wear on the liner.
The 470cc piston is way to heavy.
There is some flat surface aftermarket pistons if you would like to increase compression, but they are heavy, the gain is more with lighter parts.

RE: Piston.

enginehardware ...any chance you can tell us some piston weights..
std 2001 berg piston weighs 314g/std wossner to suit 2001 berg weighs 282g
what does the piston weigh what you are talking about.
does it fit all 650 bergs?

The Elko piston goes with any 135mm con rod. 2003-2008.
When messured with piston complete, incl rings-pin-circlip, its 50gr lighter than the Wossner. Approx 95gr lighter than the Viseco.
We also messured the Athena but i dont remember the weight.
I have all the data in the workshop, have to check when i come home tonight.

We have cracked a few of the Elko pistons when we increased the compression, its very little material in them, so we get a crack cross the surface on the piston from left to right.

Hi Thomas,
I´ve been told that Wössner is the producer of Athena pistons - so I assume the weight should be the same

RE: Re: RE: Piston.

gokai

same company but is it the same spec? this is the question!

RE: Re: RE: Piston.

Taffy,

think I got your point -you´re right.
Sorry, but I can´t tell you if there´s any difference

Same thing happenend with my OEM piston. Cracked from left to richt. But bike was still standard, with original parts, exhaust, ... Could the compression be to high on a original husa?

Just bad luck, but its not bullet proof.
Compr is low on a std 628cc engine compered with what we use sometime.

foto broken piston

Here's the result of my sunday morning drive. Strange scratches all in same direction on surface of the piston...

RE: foto broken piston

Those scratches looks very strange! as if someone has had a screwdriver in the spark plug hole testing for TDC maybe?
