oil coming out of breather hose.

I think one vent will be fine. Up until 04 all Bergs only had one vent. Perhaps venting wasn't the main reason for adding a second vent. Based on where its placement is it seems to me that it could have been a way to increase oiling to the cam chain. Oil would be flung up the breather hose and would then drip back down onto the chain.

These bikes have a reed valve that regulates the amount of oil in the crankshaft area. With too much crankcase pressure I think it may push out too much oil from the crank back to the clutch area. So perhaps the engineers wanted to insure enough crank oiling or raise the crankshaft cavity oil level by lowering the crankcase pressure.

In any case I would not want to be the one to try and second guess Thomas Gustavsson.

So do you recomment to leave the vent above the cam chain open or plugged? How do you run your bike? :p Both open or one plugged with a valve?
thanks :)

On my 05 I left it stock. On my 01 and 97 I did a breather mod.

Alright, so i just went on a longer test ride. Everything went well, but after about 10 mins of riding, the bike just suddenly bogged down. Like it was drowning in fuel, you guys got any idea perhaps as i have No idea what could Be wrong. I double checked everything when assembling it back.
Many thanks!

Really need more info. Were you able to start it again?

Pull the air filter and look at the frame just to make sure the frame cavity is not filling with oil as I believe you are not currently running the filter in the breather hose.

It only needs 3 things to run, air, fuel and spark.

I took off the air filter and there was a lot of oil in the carb. Cleaned it out an rerouted the vent hose to a catch can now and she is running fine now. There was no filter in there indeed :/ But even so, is it normal to spew that much oil out? After a 20km ride, there is about 50ml in the catch can. This can't be correct right?

I'm thinking of making a catch can which dumps the oil back in the engine, would this be possible?

you need something in the breather tube to keep the oil from flooding the carb. if you don't have a foam filter, use a wad of steel wool in the large part at the top.

The thing is, i'm not driving it hard. Just a casual normal ride and it spews that much oil :/
Will the steel wool solve it?
What i was thinking to do was to make the breather System have like it's own eco system, so Use a catchtank above the vent so that the spewed oil will drip back in the engine.
Could that work? I would only do this as a last Resort kinda :p

you have to have something that will stop the oil mist and still allow the engine crankcase air to vent. i have used steel wool when the stock foam disintegrated.

Alright, how much air flow does there need to be? When blowing hard on it, does it need to pass trough freely without resistance or does it just need to let some air out?

YOU NEED A NEW PISTON. OK?

get the engine stripped and a new piston. you could try buying the panels of sponge that bond to the frame. they fit under the fuel tank and are glued to the side of the frame. find a way of cutting two of these up and layering them on each other.

but do an engine rebuild for goodness sake. your piston has had it.

Jeez............!!!!

A complete engine rebuild? Or just a top end? Engine is completely rebuild two years ago with all new crank and bearings. Also the piston was replaced with a wossner HC.
Would it Be possible to do it myself, i have some knowledge of putting Pistons in but never set a timing chain :)

Many thanks

judging from the way you are speaking of it I would say an emphatic 'NO!'. leave it to others.

you may well have had an engine rebuild but the quality of the rebuilds is woeful usually!

it is more than likely then that someone has let an old liner go on when it should have been re-lined.

You could try a high speed air valve on the front breather and vent to the atmosphere

If it's still no good then yes open it up

based on experience, i can tell you that you want one with as little back pressure (flows easily) as possible or you'll be leaking oil on every gasket on the engine.
stick with filtered stock, quit fighting it.

On my 05 I did a breather mod but put it back stock because it was throwing out huge amounts of oil also. I thought that I connected to the front vent and plugged the back one but perhaps I was mistaken and vented the rear one. Just for grins can you plug the front one and vent the rear one and measure the amount of oil that comes out of the breather hose like before. There may be other factors involved when Husaberg went to a dual vent set up. On my 01 I did a breather mod, it has a single vent on the rocker cover toward the front and has hardly blown any oil out of the breather hose.
