I just got the new fuel pump from Husaberg last night and it is now installed, bike fired right up with the pump sounding very smooth. My dealer was great and helped me out with getting a good will warrenty for the pump replacement( NO charge) Thanks Scott. Husaberg did want the old one back..Not an issue!!! I hope my bike leaving me stranded or completely ticked off as I have to sit and wait for my bike to cool down during a race are behind me. I have full weekend of riding planed I will let you know if any more fuel related issues arise now that the new pump has been replaced.
Cheers

Did you contact Husaberg/KTM directly, or did your dealer champion this for you? I'm wondering who to contact.

I asked my dealer this info, and they passed me off to their service department. That wasn't what I'd asked for, but I thought it couldn't hurt and they might have some insight. They hadn't heard of any restarting issues at all, and told me to try the hot restart button. Seriously.

No my dealer did all the work for me.. All I did was explain what happened to my bike and the dealer took it from there.. It was quite a smooth transaction. I must admit the bike is running better than it ever with the new pump installed...

Wow you are so lucky that you have a great Dealer that will go to work for you. Mine started to and then just said I would have more pull. What a joke but I guess I will go for it. We will see. I may post the name of the dealership later if they cant get me taken care of. :)

bergenstein,
not to stick up for the dealer or anything, i am not a dealer and have actaully never talked to anyone from husaberg, i work for a chrysler dealer and at least for us and goodwill warrantys the customer has more pull for sure, if i call, even if fighting for the person, i rarely get something covered, unfortunatly, if the customer calls and complains directly, even if they have a bogus demand, i have found they are more likely to get coverage or assisstance,
the way i see it the customer relation people dont care if i have to tell the customer no and get my face torn off, but if they have to tell them no themselves they are in for it, is this right? hell no, just the way it is, at least for my company, slightly different since fiat took over but thats beside the point,
maybe your dealer is just lazy, these calls are usually a pain in the arse and you sit on hold forever at least for me but like i said, complete different company, i have no idea if husaberg customer relation people are like this or not,

when you call, be nice, be sure they know you know its a known problem

good luck guys

After falling victim to the fuel pump problem I've been scouring the net for solutions short of the £270.00 dealer price for a new pump and read on another forum that these pumps are sold by the manufacturer for $7.00! So I did a bit more searching and found this....

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/265908238/MOTORCYCLE_electric_fuel_pump.html

Is this the same pump?
Great find, Pegscraper!!

Even if it isn't the exact pump - it does show the possible price gouging that could be going on.
Do you mind if I repost your link in the Husaberg section on KTMTalk? I mean, I probably will regardless - but it's always nice to ask, isn't it. :^) There is a companion thread like this one on that site and we're trying to raise visiblity on this problem so that KTM/Husaberg will take care of it.

Thanks! E-Ticket

There is another picture from the manufactures site.

http://conam.en.alibaba.com/product/251 ... _pump.html

This one is current 3 Amp, 12 V, 30 l/hour, 3 bar (equal to 43.51 psi) and less than $7.00. Anyone know the current requirement of the stock Husaberg / KTM one?

Sure looks like the CA Cycleworks one.

Cheers,

Blaine

Looking at the fuel pressure test in the factory service manual the pressure should be 3.3 - 3.7 bar (48 - 54psi). The spec of the pump on the Cycleworks website gives max pressure as 4.5 -6.0 bar and operational pressure of 3 bar. The pressure to the injector (which is what you are actually testing) must be governed by the regulator in the tank so the specs given in the manual should be within the range of these after-market pumps. After having another closer look at the pumps on the Chinese manufacturers website they do not appear to have the flared outlet pipe of the OE item so maybe they are not the EXACT same pump but will work OK?

Dear Bergini,

I am always nice when talking to the dealer and the people on the customer service side. I finally got it resolved but the complaint is simple.

When they give you a general KTM number that has no one on the other end of the phone just a message machine, there is no one to complain to, and you have to leave a message which I have left about 15 over 2-3 weeks it becomes a little frustrating. With Chrysler or any other dealer usually there is a customer service line that you can talk to a person. I have left VIN number on the messages like suggested and still no response, yet finally after the 2-3 weeks of messages I call the dealer back and ask them to get me in touch with a regional rep. He called and left a message at 6 am once with the general number again with no success. Finally the dealer decided to go to bat again and finally thank goodness got through and they are sending me a new pump. I am grateful to the dealer for finally getting it taken care of. I have yet to receive the new one but they say it is in the mail. :)

BTW I ordered the aftermarket pump and it is working amazing and I didnt have to mod the stock much because I dremeled the aftermarket one down to fit the stock fuel lines. It was an idea that was on another thread and I played with it and it worked amazing. I really find this forum great for information and I have pictures of every step to the replacement that I will hopefully upload this week.

Thanks again for the detailed input. Good and bad it does help to build an understanding of how to fix the problems the best way.

Not to raise an old thread but my berg is having a similar issue when getting hot ( 09 FE450 ) The pump wont turn over when the bike cranks and when it cools it will and the bike will start. Had a look at those above links and this one with lifetime warranty and shipping charges for warranty claims covered looks like a good deal. Anyone tried it ?!

Did anyone try this pump? Is it a direct fit and good replacement for the stock pump? (I ride a 2009 FE 570 where the pump shuts down when fuel gets hot...)

Quantum HFP-389-HQ4 (30mm fuel pump)

Don't want to hijack this thread but as advice from Daleo just keeping issues in thread.
I had all the classic symptoms of the Chinese pump ( part 1100-00072) hot fuel ...no pump work..no work!

Before I saw the Slavens you-tube video or read the advice on this forum about the ca cycle works pump, I purchased the Quantum pump (HFP-389 30mm fuel pump for 2010 fe/fx450), not cheap. Installed it carefully as per the Slavens for the ca pump instructions. But the bike won't start.

The FI light comes up there are some clicking noises it sounds like the pump works ,maybe, if it is extremely quiet .But nothing like the distintive noise of the orgional.

Help, the bike wont start, hopefully some one has come across this pump before and can advise me.

I recently put a Ca Cycleworks pump into an '11 570 that was sold with a bad original pump and it worked great for about a week, and then it developed the same symptoms you're describing.

The pump would lightly click but never prime up, plus I was getting a "fuel pump relay" code-four long and one short flashes of the FI light which freaked me out when I found that it could be a bad ECU.

Took it back apart and the plastic pump housing tube had come apart and one of the terminals was off the pump. I put it all back together making sure to snap the housing back together properly this time and it's tip top now.
