Not the tiny shroud in the photo, but when you put the tank back on the exterior bike shroud, the fan will be in a tight cavity with fan exhaust exit in the the bike shroud, It works great I promise.

Welcome to the club, you are going to love that Ride. If I can ever help you with anything I'll treat you just like I sold it to you.
Mark

Thanks Mark, and once I get a chance to ride we'll probably talk about suspension.

Finally got the first decent ride the 570 today (not counting the quick ride round the block when I bought it) and put 30 road miles and 1hr on it.Thought I'd just post up a few observations/first impressions, all compared to my previous XRR650.

1. The gearbox is dissappointing. Finding neutral from 1st when at a standstill is virtually immpossible but shifting seems adequate when on the move. Maybe this will improve with use?

2. Specs say around 20kgs lighter than the XRR but feels MUCH lighter and flickable even on road use so I reckon off road use should be in a different class.....maybe?

3. Fuelling seems spot on right from tickover with no popping on overun or idling down/unstable idle problems which seemed to plague the XRR.

4. I expected/hoped! the brakes would be better and they are (a weak point on the XRR), not just more bite but more feel helped by the weight difference no doubt.

5. Spent the last couple of weeks fitting the various extras I bought with the bike, fan kit etc. and the bike seems more awkward to work on than the the big H, due mainly to the fact that it's so compact I guess. The tank is a PITA to remove with the fan fitted and the spark plug is nowhere near as accessible. Done the first oil/filter and screen change today, piece of cake. Setting valve clearances will obviuosly be a lot more involved with shim opposed to screw/locknut but accessibility seems pretty good with the rads removed.

6. Just like the Honda the Husa gets very hot very quickly when left to tickover for a few minutes but the fan did seem to cope OK, cutting in and out repeatedly without any boil overs. This was in the garage with ambient temp around 10degC. Will have to wait and see if it's the same story on a tight trail in summer at 25+deg.

7. Hopefully not a problem but the engine is much noisier than the Honda, sounds, comparatively, like it's falling to bits!

The bike came with 13/38 gearing for break-in but I'll shortly be fitting the 52t rear sprocket and longer chain supplied before venturing off road which should give it similar overall gearing to that I had on the XRR.

Overall I'm well pleased with the bike but to be fair the XRR is now a 10 year old design so on that footing has nothing to prove against a new Husa/KTM etc. What the Husa has to prove is reliability. If it's only half as good as the Honda it'll be a great bike!

No, finding neutral from first will not improve. The 570 is just such a fantastic bike you don't let finding neutral bother you.

I an answer one of your questioons, I have 8 hrs on my 390, You will be able to find neutral easier over time

I took my new FE570 down to southern Spain in October. The ambient was 25+degC. The engine (with cooling fan) never overheated.

The second bike in this clip is a 2008 FE550 with the higher temp fan thermostat. This guy had no problems either.

Erm, no.

My bike's neatly parked at the top of the trail whilst I'm busy with a camera in my hand!

I'm looking at this clip and when I pause it after the bike is re-started and pull's away, it says, plain as day, on the swing arm, YAMAHA.
Just an observation....

LOL!

My eys ain't as good as they usd to be whipersnaper...

I just checked it and it passed pretty damn fast!

Where in the hell did you get that avatar Barshoe? She does really weird things to my head. :fish:

LOL! right, I see it now. It is so obvious, how could I have missed it?!

What do yous guys do, watch these vids frame by frame????

I do remember thinking, Man, that 570 sounds really ill and the guy on the 550's bike sounds so much smoother.
The hand shifting into neutral might be a good method for finding it on a 09 +.

Where's the other fat naked guy with a camera's bike at? :p

Really Barshoe, where's that haunting avatar from?

Fat? LOL!

He was on a KTM stroker - parked up the trail next to where the Yamaha stopped.

Discovered another little 'quirk' on the 570 today. There is a lot of clutch drag until the engine is warmed up which kills the engine when you engage gear. The starter also isn't strong enough to fire the engine with a gear engaged and the clutch pulled in. Neither problem occurs when the engine is fully warmed up. The viscosity of the specified 10/50 should, theoretically, be the same as 10/40 when cold but seems much higher. This which will also increase the clutch drag. is anyone out there using 10/40 grade in these new engines?

I have been using Shell Advance Ultra 4, 10w-40 In my 570 since March when i picked the bike up i have not had any problems yet, I do change the oil between 15 and 20 hours, I only pay £24 for a 4ltr drum, Bit different then the big named oils,
Yes someone out there will say its crap, but if you read the small print on the back it does say Exceeds API SG and JASO MA. endorsed by Ducati and KTM.
Cant be that Bad :bounce3:

I use Motrex 10-50 in mine.

Yes, clutch drag can cause the engine to stall when you first pop it into gear, but you don't have to run the engine for more than a few moments before the oil warms enough for this not to be a problem.

The bike wont start with it in gear and the clutch pulled in? Finding neutral does get easier with time.
