Long time lurker, Inquiry about a Husaberg FE600E...

...I have been offered a 2000 FE600E. It has been ridden by a 60 yo male. I am strongly considering this bike. Here is my background. I have had KTMs since 1985 to include LC4E, 950 Adventure. I have just sold a R1100S and currently own a 2006 TE610. I do most of all my own maintenance. I currently am riding the TE as a commuter going from 9000ft to 4000ft daily and back again. I am not looking for a racing bike nor am I looking for this to be a commuter. I seek something that is good on fs roads and an occasional trail. My wife has expressed more interest in riding and the TE is just not real passenger friendly. So I guess I am asking what are the good/bad points of this bike. What type of valve adjustment is used, how are the oil changes (frequency, accessibility, qty), how smooth is it say compared to a LC4. I have looked around in here and these answers were not readily apparent. If you have a link I can look it up. Any help is appreciated. TIA

I'll give it a shot.
2000 FE600.
Possibly the best year motor with the new style frame and geometry. Very nice bike to have if it has been well maintained and is in good shape.
Not passenger friendly but will fit the gap as a fire road/trail bike....a wicked fast trail bike mind you.
Much lighter and faster than the LC4, perhaps about the same vibration...not alot for the displacement.
Maintenance is somewhat easy. Oil changes every 5 hours or so (1 litre). Screw type valve adjustment.
Alot of answers can be found in the "owners doc" Here is the link.

Thats it for openers. Hopefully others will chime in,

Perfect. That is exactly the type of information I was looking for.

The e-start FE600E model has a very effective counterbalancer shaft - the starter actually drives onto it. Mine vibrates less than any bike I've ever had. It is excellent on the road and comfortable (well relatively!!) for 500+ km in a day.

I rode a FE600 once & I'm glad I got the e-start model instead.

I'll bet that the 2000 FE600e may be one of the best bikes of all time. If I could find a pristine example, I would buy it in a second........ANY TAKERS?

Whoa. I am definitely NOT looking at the Husaberg as a passenger friendly bike. I have my eye on something entirely different for that. 8O

While I am here, do they have a cush hub?

Well I went for a ride yesterday on the bike in question. Very smooth, very light feeling, and anywhere from plenty to lots of power. It seems to be a bike that has been ridden and maintained properly. It is not pristine or perfect aesthetically. I know I have to make the call but what would be a good ball park figure to pay for this bike?

I'll bite.....I'll say $2000 give or take $500.

Looking forward to the Mile High Enduro this year again. I have been up 3 of the last 4 years.

$2000 sounds fair to me.

We have been working for about a month on setting that up.
