Late Model Leaks

Hi Gang,

I've got a few hours on my 07 FE650 now, about 10 and 4 oil changes. For what its worth, the water pumps still ooze just like my 98 501 and one I haven't heard of before is the crankcase centre oozes into the bash plate for a nice conjealed oil dust crud.

Does anyone else have any leaks in the crankcase join? Should I be talking to my dealer about warranty?

FYI setup to date is:
07 FE 650
BRP sub mount Scotts damper
Hb rad fan kit
Reikon bars
barkbuster egos
HB high seat
pc racing carb vent kit
Lineaweaver carb kit
Kouba T fuel screw
Whipps bash plate
fork bleeders
HB/KTM adjustable pegs, modified for further adjustment down and back
9.7 rear spring
0.46 fork springs
suspension valving mods to come

And speaking of warranty, do you think I should ask for warranty on the rear tyre, the knobs are all worn off already!!!!!!!!! Fuun and Faaaast

Steve

I have a leak somewhere also but I have only had a few replies to my posts ("10 forum topics in one" and "Fuel in Oil"). They may give you some info but I am sure there is more info out there but I sit here waiting :(

YES.YES.YES.
I wouldnt pay $13,000 for a motorcycle and tolerate an oil leak where the manufacturer did not intend it to leak oil.

Get it fixed while its still in warranty, otherwise it will be an EXPENSIVE excersize to pay for it out of your own pocket should it become worse later on..

the reason i do not own a husaberg is for this problem .

BUT I REALLY NEED MY BERG [ snivell ]

the bike i have now does nothing for the adrenilin rush which i am used to .

the day i hear that these problems are sorted is the day i drive to the berg dealer and $$$

i have the money waiting ktm .

Hi Guys,

I cleaned her up to take to Suttos so the motor can be stripped and the oil leaks fixed. Sutto insisted that it be fixed after I emailed him photos of the evidence. I'll collect on Friday on the way through to Louee, so it better be ready.

Some evidence here:

the problem is they may fix the little leak and f..ck the main bearing float on re-assembly. It can only be checked after assembly and they may not want to do it again after doing it once. Check it before you leave and don't accept that it will loosen up corectly as the may mean so loose the parts are all over the bush. I have seen someone scrounging in the bush for rocker bits that have come through the rocker cover and it really is not a pretty sight.

For an experienced Husaberg shop that wouldnt be more than a few hour job.

Yank the engine.
Off with the head
Pull the RHS casing- no need to touch any crank clearances etc if mains arent being replaced.
Clean case halves, inspect for cuase of leak (poor maching/lack of sealant etc).
Reseal/reassemble if no machining required..

The first engine in my 03 650 used to leak oil out of the from under the head of the bottom oil filter cover bolt, because the factory had not applied enough sealant on the case halves and at that point . My guess would be that this coild also be the issue in steves case.

Of course, if its a low spot in the case faces it gets a bit more time consuming and complicated............

your right, suttos is probably one of the most experienced berg dealers in australia so they should have it fixed in no time and can run there eye over things at the same time.

My '07 FE550 (5hrs on it) has the same crankcase leak Steve. The weep hole leaks - oil initially and now it looks like oil and coolant together in a nice sludge. Oil is also leaking from under the inner clutch cover and from the countershaft seal. Apart from that I'm leak free baby........................

I have spoken to my dealer and he will fix at next service under warranty. I will ensure one of Orangeberg's kits goes in - not the OEM one.

I'm not surprised it leaks - from looking on this website before I bought I new it'd be odds on. Too bad Husaberg won't sort it - who knows how many sales these silly/careless/bullsh*t problems have cost them - not to mention the warranty claim costs. I'd love to know their sales to warranty claim ratio - probably close to one or less I'd say. If I was a shareholder in the Husaberg company, I'd be storming the AGM and wanting heads to roll..............

Silly problems aside, the FE550 is an excellent bike. It has power in spades, handles well, great brakes, it's light, easy to work on and bulk fun to ride.
If you don't have one - get one. But get a drip tray and a tube of gasket goo on your way home...................

I'll collect tomorrow on the way through to Louee. We shall see how it turns out. I can live with a weep if I have to, but this is 2007, not the 1950s

Lets hope that the repairs work and do not introduce other problems. Suttos are Australia's longest serving Berg dealer and are good guys so all should be well.

They are wondeful to ride, of that there is no doubt.

Its interesting that my 98 has always had a very slight coolant leak, but no oil leak from the cam driven water pump. I doubt I've ever topped up the coolant in response. When they moved the pumps down they fixed the coolant leak and introduced the oil leak instead.

G'Day Steve,
I have only 4hrs on my Berg with no leak yet !!!!! This weekend might be the ride to start it leaking. I almost feel left out not having any leaks yet !!!!! I have no doubt the water pump will start soon.
See ya tomorrow at Louee mate.
Cheers
Garry.

Damn straight. I used to make my mate park his old Norton off my driveway because it leaked oil everywhere. Now I've gotta do the same - he'd be pissing himself laughing if he knew. I'm not gonna tell him. At least he can say he owns an old "classic".

Have fun on the ride - someone had better vomit in their helmet on Sunday or I'll be disappointed :drinking:

Get your self over there Shonky13 and you can lead the vomit competition !!!! Yuck !!!!! How about just a ride instead.

No probs - I couldn't ride out of sight on a dark night anyway - but I can regurgitate with the best of them. Stick to what you are good at I say!
Shame my helmet is away getting cleaned - I'll have to borrow one. It has to be a shoei, troy lee or arai. What brand is your helmet Cafey18?

Well the bike was collected OK and tested on Saturday at Louee. Got back to lunch and oil over the front of the motor and in the bash plate. Oh ****. Off with the tank and it seemed to be coming from the breather. Tighten the hose clamp on the rocker cover and all is good. No grunge from the water pump eiither so it seems that so far OrangeBerg's fix kit works.

Steve

You had me worried there for a minute Steve !!!! I didn't realise you still had a problem Saturday. As long as it was only a loose clamp. Oh by the way, I have ordered a Scotts steering damper and John is putting the MSC onto his demo bike.
Cheers
Garry.
