Large capacity fuel tank available in a few weeks

Skinny,
Sorry to report it does NOT work. I have a 2000 FE501 I bought a large capacity tank off ebay but it only fit 1999 and earlier bikes, I ended up selling it to a guy in Colo. Springs. The mounting is substantially different, you could probably do it , but you would need to get the mounting tabs (for lack of a better discription) off a late model bike to weld to your frame. I looked at modifing mine to use the old tank, but it looked like more work than I wanted to do. So I opted to go to Church and pray that IMS, Clarke, or someone would see their way clear to build one I could bolt on :D . Clearly not only is God a biker but He also favors Husabergs :D :D :D :D Hope to see you in Moab !

At least in the US, Clarke and IMS tanks in Natural color are clear/translucent and definitely not opaque. I don't care about semantics though...I just wanna see the fuel level.

Stoveguy,
Thanks for cooking my dream! :( lol!
Like I said it "looks" like it would work. It seems to me I could remove the old mount (or leave it and make a GPS mount out of it) And weld a threaded stud where the "new" mount is on the side of the frame and cover the side air filer opening. If that's the case--no biggie--I got fab skillz. I need to see the new tank and see what I'm dealing with before I go off the deepend. Thing is--I really want a larger tank and will do what it takes to make it happen. Within reason of course!
If y'all want to help me and find a tank that does fit my Berg...please post here and I'll make you an offer :)

Skinny,
I don't have an older model handy to compare with so I can't say for sure that it would not be possible to make it work. I f you could get your hands on a newer berg to compare side by side frame dimensions and are willing to cut and weld I'd say your chances are good to make a newer big tank happen. You should also watch here in the classifieds and ebay every once in a while someone is selling one of those older big tanks I want to say the thing was like 19 liters or so.

Adios
Ron

I have a '97 FC and an 2000, to which I have looked into a while back to see if the 2000 tank will fit on older bikes. It looks to me that the tank mounting points will just have to be moved my cutting them off and rewelding in the proper spots. There seems to be another problem, though, that the older FC bikes have a gusset/brace at the end of the backbone to rear mainframe junction, that would probably interfere. If so, it would not be too difficult to chop that off too, and copy the 2000 cross frame brace approach.

Brendan,
I saw those braces as well and is a concern. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Dam those tank MFg companies, why didn't they make one for my bike!!!!

older tank photos

Skinny,
In case you havn't seen one before, here are some photos of my large capacity tank that came with my fe501 96 when i bought it. As you can see its massive and holds heaps of fuel, is a bit wider where it hugs around the radiators but is worth the extra mileage. Good luck finding one and great news on the new tanks boys, lap it up...., TP

RE: older tank photos

Sweet tyerpower--thanks!
If anyone knows of one for sale or can send me info on where I might find one, I shure would like that. Of course I'm willing to pay $$$ for it...lol!
Dang it Mr. Powers, why did you have to sell yours. Call the guy up and tell him a guy on this sight needs it--he's had it long enough anyway:)

RE: older tank photos

They di pop up on ebay every once in a while, I think i have seen 2-3 over the past two-three years... I guess that is not very good odds is it... sorry..

Skinnyberg,
I just happen to have a pre-2000 humongous blue tank ( just like the one in Tyrepower's post) in my collection of Husastuff. I have been wanting to build a long distance desert bike for ages, but never find the time. Make me WANT to part with it. Send PM.
I can bring it to Moab. How about coming there to pick it up?

Hey BOSS

Since everyone else is asking for what color tank.......... Can I have mine in Natural? If not then any color will do as long as its BIG
Will you be making all the deleveries in Moab or will you have some to ship out before??
Corse if you deliver in Moab and we have mounting issues I bet we can get some tech support
Thanks

Such info cannot be disscused as of yet,But I have layed my eye's on the proto unit
& it turned my crank!! The only reason It's taken more time than expected Is the
plating.Everyone will see It here first!!

you know, i've kept outta this USA thang as i need a s@(*&)^%$ler tank but i find it more than a coincidence that clarke and boss are developing tanks at the same time. has anyone put two and two together here?

regards

Taffy

In th old days we used to fill a fuel tank 3/4 full of hot water and put 5psi of air into it. This used to give an extra capacity of anywhere between 2 and 5 litres, if done on the bike it didnt change the shape where it mounted and was still easilly removed.

has anyone experimented with this on the berg tanks?

Hey Taffy, If I'm not mistaken Boss loaned Clark one of his bikes for the fitting. That might be why the tanks will be ready at about the same time...
