LARGER FUEL TANK FOR FE450/550/650

Just for the record, the Australian tank maker approached over this issue is not interested
Qoute: " At present, we have no plans to do a tank for the Husaberg" :(

The manufacturers of these bikes need to get involved in this issue.
How can you consider a bike seriously as choice if you require a greater fuel capacity and you cannot buy a large tank for it.

Forget the rear tank. They should have put that development time into a larger main one.

As KTM offer a large tank for their RFS and two strokes in the Hard Parts catalog, Why dont Husaberg ? :?:

I can think of two things.
1. They build 10 times the amount of bikes = 10 times larger is the after market. Therefore companies like Acerbis can build tanks for them.
2. Policy. KTM want their customers that want to go into the desert riding KTMs.

In the past it has been like this.
The clever husaberg developers (R&D engineers) come up with a great idea (at least they think it is). They present it to the production and marketing people in austria who look at it. If it is a "hrm, yeah sounds good but we don't really think so" idea it may appear on a husaberg before the KTMs. Perhaps for testing, I don't know. If they think it's a "whoa, GREAT idea" they appear on the KTMs a couple of years before the 'Bergs.

My idea of solving this problem is to really let Husaberg know that you guys want a larger tank. At Husaberg.se you will find an E-mail address to Husaberg Scandinavia that might be suitable.

Don't actually know why I'm writing this since I want a smaller tank

Rufone thanks these tanks will cost around $200 ea now I only need 99 more people to pony and I will build these asap pm pm pm send the deposits

All,

Posted below is the response I got from Clarke Mfg. about a larger tank for a Husaberg just to see what the reaction would be.

I spent some time reading this entire thread and most of you seem to think that there is a glimmer of hope that they will make a tank or the engineers at Husaberg would slip a fast one by the KTM management with a new tank. You're nipping at the crack pipe again. So suck it up, buy the .75 gallon under seat tank and find some Mickey Mouse cheese-ball workaround for the ignition mount and call it good because I think that is all we are going to see.

The only way this is going to happen is if BMG, like Husky and Gas Gas have already done, steps up to the plate and sponsors the tank. Without factory backing, I don't think this is gonna happen. So, BMG, if you read this post these are the support items that sell bikes.

Rant over... thanks.

Subject: Husaberg Tank Inquiry

Sir,

I purchased a 2005 Husaberg and am looking for a tank. Do you have any plans to make a tank for these bikes in the future? I realize you need to ensure you have a market for the tank so you can sell a minimum number but I'm sure that would be a fairly easy mark to hit since you would most likely be the only game in town.

Thanks,
Morgan

you appear to be blind or rude but directly above your post dirtberger is asking for your deposit. you don't need 500 tanks this time, you don't need 400 or indeed 300 - it's just 200 and a perfectly reasonable number to aim for.

do you all trust DB. if as a group you think you've covered your bases i suggest you back HIS idea and stop talking about clark. clark don't really wnat to do it.

so i suggest you find the really old thread on this subject and PM each person PERSONALLY and then GET ON WITH IT!!!!

put more flesh on the bones for everyone, colour? capacity? when? cap included? warranty? tell everyone about the quality of the work these people do? people need to have faith...

stop pissing in the wind all of you.

hmm. interesting thread. as i continue to get apparently serious inquiries on my old klx330 (which will open up garage space) i get closer and closer to pulling the trigger on an fe550. i'm not sure i would buy a bigger tank or not. for trailriding, i could easily go with a number-plate tank, and for racing in the nevada desert and isde qualifier and stuff, the stock tank should be fine. heck, i only have a 2.8 gal tank on my 2-stroke, and i can easily go 60+ miles in very sandy conditions before i hit reserve, so maybe i just ride like a girl.

if the ergos were good, i would probably spend the money to get at or slightly over 3 gallons, but it would have to be better than for example the acerbis tank on my old klx which is pretty wide around the knees compared to stock.

I'd really like to hear Brett or Josh's "official" stance on this subject...

You out there guys... ya' listening???

Guys,
Get a hold of Dirtberger and let him know you're interested. He has someone lined up to make these tanks, but needs commitments for 200 of them. This is probably the only way we will see a high capacity tank.

No disrespect to Dirtberger, I think its awesome that he is willing to step up the plate. From the sounds of it, there have been 10 or 20 commited member/riders who are willing to throw in money. That's a little short of 200.

Instead of spending our time hoping a kind member like Dirtberger steps up to the plate, lets pressure the people who make their living selling these motorcycles to do their job. BMG needs to step up to the plate. They are the NA Marketing/Sales group for this line of motorcycles and need to act like a true motor corporation and get the aftermarket stuff kick started. All of the other manufacturers do this.

So gents, let's change our direction slightly and talk to BMG more actively and get them talking to our friends at IMS or Clarke.

I agree with Baja_runoutofgasser... this is something BMG should be aggressively pursuing. And I think they should stop playing dumb and communicate with they're buying public as to what WE WANT TO SEE IN AFTERMARKET ACCESSORIES!!!

Nuff said...

With all due respect to DG, Splatt tried this over a year ago. And with his aggressive commitment it still only landed I think 53 tanks.

None of us are BMG but we sure can give our ideas.

A good thing would be for the resellers to also commit on a certain number. Especially in the deserted States. But would an outfit like Premier order, say, 5 tanks? :?

If the brand gets good press and the reliability has been greatly improved, more units will be sold and sooner or later the market will support that type of product.

Because of the very original design of the Husabergs, the tank will never be cross-referenced with KTM parts, unlike so many other parts. And that's the big hurdle right there.

We need to be patient and to remind the manufacturers once in a while of our need for that item.

I found an outfit in France who will manufacture 15 liters aluminum tanks for the Husaberg but they need a certain quantity and they will be around 500 €. Who is ready to spend that much and is aluminum a good material for a desert tank?

Why do I need to be patient? I'm spending premium dollars for a luxury item. The vendor needs to be responsive.

Second, aluminium is great until you crash then you have a high-dollar item for the aluminium recycle. Besides, 500 euro at today's exchange rate is about 600 USD or 137,000 Sudanese Dinars.

We have to be patient because the market is not big enough for the manufacturers to think it is worth making a big tank. Whether they are right or wrong is another issue.

How hard do you have to crash to puncture an aluminum tank?

Dude that's a cheap shot :) At least ALL of the bikes in my garage run and have the ability to run outa gas. Yours? Oh yeah that's right, they're on order... that's the story. :-({|=

I think the Husaberg community is one of the most patient groups anyone will ever meet... attrition dictates this.

But all signs point towards a pretty rosy future, so let's just get on with developing the aftermarket for these wonderful bikes.

look fella you got no chance of 500 and here is someone offering to get you in the game for 200. talk to BMG by all means but since when did you suddenly choose the manufacturer?

polished aluminium is the bizniz and easily repairable, won't fade in the sun, polishes up a dream and dents just pop out. you can weld it at the turn of a key and you can put an air jet on it and increase the capacity by a litre in about .25 seconds!!!!!

if i understood your third quip i'd quote that as well.

so get off your arse and instead of typing start calling and badger those 50 wannabeez.

If Taffy had his way, three thimbles and a fart would do just fine... :D

I want to officailly invite you out next November to come down and prerun the Baja 1000. You can stick around and watch the show if you'd like.

Maybe Morgan (aka - Baja_Ionlyuseplastictees) will let you oversee the refueling duties of his new bike...

Three thimbles and fart... you're killin me! LOL

Taffy, I'll seconds Ken's invite. You can come down and pre-run with me and you can watch with Ken. We'll most likely be 400+ plus miles south of the US border and pre-run a 200+ mile leg as its a one-way race this year. Actually Ken might have a motorcycle to pre-run with but he doesn't hang out with us little people in Baja.
