Why oh wny? Having probs starting bike (spoke to taffy, we think its damp after washing taff i aint had time to do your stuff but dried off best i could) left it overnight, and it fired up for 3 secs then died, then when trying to restart, it decided to nearly break my foot with a massive kick-back. took stator cover off, tiny bit dirty and damp in there, but 2 bolts missing from holding stator in, tiny bit of movement in stator, could this be a contributing prob, looks like they have been shered off by some butcher in the past, not good considering it had a full rebuild apparently 7 rideas ago

Hi Pete,

After washing Taffy was he any cleaner LOL, I think you missed out the comer.
With only one fixing screw on the stator has the stator got any signs of being rubbed by the flywheel, this is a stator killer for sure.
Do a resistance test on the stator followed by spark performance test to see how far you can pull a spark directly from the HT lead, normal kick should pull a spark 12mm.
Your kick back could be a bit of pre ignition or it's gassed up.
What year is your Berg Pete?.

Regards

Sparks.

RE: Re: Kick back

i try to put it in the sig but it nevr comes up its an 00 600, it has the sem ignition with the stator on the outer cover.
what you mean by gassed up? fuel in the bore? i was kicking the **** out of it for ages like

Sounds like it's getting the gas but no ignition, just do the spark test Pete and let me know how it performs.

Steve.

RE: Re: RE: Re: Kick back

i have had that when the bike was trying to start but the timing was out.

the next problem is that the plug is virtually fouled right up now.

what i did in the days before i was sorted was to remove the plug and then stick it in the gas flame on the cooker. it would glow orange and nowt would happen for 5-7 minutes. all of a sudden; like a match lighting it would burn really loudly and high and blue. stick it in straight away and that at that moment is your best chance.

i suggest that you also consider the atomiser and needle being updated.

After washing mine I aways remove the filter and soak up a small puddle of water sitting in the bottom of the sock. Is it possible that some water was sucked into the carb and is blocking one of the small galleries?

gonna rip carb apart and steam clean at work tomorrow, what is best way to mark this sem ignition stator up so i can get it off and repair broken studs?

i put tape across the outside of the housing so that with the left eye closed the masking tape (perhaps something stronger for handling and working a bit so = duct tape maybe?) lines up across the line that you can see on the stator?

regards

Taffy
