Is this 08 FE450 right for me?

Hi new here. Im thinking about looking at a 08 Husaberg FE450 with Illinois title.

I'm 160lbs 5'8" 45 y.o. I need a bike for short highway trips (10 m max) to dirt roads and single line trails. No racing but I want some power for the dirt roads. Iv been looking for a ktm 450/525 exc and this came up.

3000 miles on it (ouch), JD jet kit and a Rekluse auto clutch, radiator fan. He's asking $4500.

The bike is a 2 hour drive. All parts would be mail order or 1 hr drive.

Would this be a good choice for a smaller older guy like myself?
I was looking at KTM for the power, weight, quality. Figured the berg was out of my league. How would the 08 FE450 compare to the 08 450exc? Many ktm parts on the berg.

Thanks.

I think he is asking a bit much I bought mine for 5900 new with the baja kit. 3000 miles is quite a few given that maint schedule. Im not trying to bust balls but i think thier asking a bit much. I have never ridden the ktm but i really like my berg and I have used it quite a bit ive used it for motocross, single track, trail, and street. it has a lot of great power and it is a lot of fun to ride on road. I have heard it is not good for the gear case to ride on pavement with stock wheels because it doesnt have a cush drive in the hub.

Thanks Zach. I should have mentioned I haven't ridden a dirt bike for 20 years. Iv been riding a Vmax with FCR's for longer and know how to flat track it around a corner. But yes. First dirt bike in 20 years. Is this 450 to tall/ powerful for guy like me? Am I better off with a Kawasaki Super Sherpa? lol Im 5'8"

What should I offer for the fe450?

Tough crowd. I swear the cycle groups are the hardest to break into.

Guess I better keep looking for that KTM or Super Sherpa if this is the kind of support I can expect owning a Berg.

Hey,

Wasnt trying to leave you hanging. I think the Berg is a great powerful bike but for what you are describing it might not be the best fit. It sits pretty tall I am 6' and when i ride on the road she is a little tall waiting for the light. I personally dont care for the sherpa I like the klx 250 over that. also, have you looked at a KLR650 that bike has a much less frequent maintenance schedule you can buy one for almost nothing and it is a great bike. For the record I WOULD NOT TRADE MY 08FE450 FOR ANY OF THOSE. I love the power to weight ratio, the sound, and the ability to take it from the road to single track. it is great. I dont know if you have looked at the KLR but my dad has one and it is really cool too. He has luggage racks a pony can, heated handgrips and about a dozen other things and it is a really comfotable bike to ride. the Fe might be a "pain in the a$$" if you are used to more of a road bike. Anyhow hope I was able to help and I would try and get the seller down on the price. I am not sure how well they hold value, but I do know it is harder to get parts for and more expensive then the kawi's I would look to see how good the prior owner has been to the bike

No no Zach. Wasn't aimed at you. I appreciate your input. Just kidding about the sherpa. my weak attempt at humor. I need something around 250lbs, powerful, ready for short highway runs to trails. He wont come down from $4500

Its all the views and no other replies. Makes one feel right at home.

Now spare me the spam nazis over at ktmtalk :bounce3:

Sayonara!

I invited you to come over and take it for a ride. Just because I didn't say okay on the offer you made doesn't mean we can't work a deal out. If you are worried about riding it in single track trails, the corn is picked and you can ride in the cornfield. It also comes with (2) spare air filters and a new piston in the box. Two items I forgot to mention, it has an adjustable leak jet and a R&D remote adjustable fuel screw.

Not sure how they compare, but here's my input.

I bought an 04 FE430 for 3k w/ 50 hours (1100 miles). I'm not going to comment on teh price he is asking as I don't know what the market is in your neck of the woods.

I'm 5'9 160 lbs and the Berg is a bit tall, but I handle it ok (I've only been on dirt bikes for 6 months, rode a CRF230F for a couple months and the bought the Berg). It did take some getting used to though - the biggest thing was getting the suspension setup correctly - that helped heaps. Not sure how it compares to the KTM size wise, but pulling specs from somewhere like bikez.com will give you a rough idea.

The 450 has great power, I think it has much better power and feels lighter than the EXC 450. Its a swedish race bike so you do need to tune it and do maintenance.

Well Hell if a GIRL at 5' 7.5" & 138 lbs can ride a 08 450 Berg you manly men should be able to! :D

I love my Husaberg and after getting the suspension set up for me, I'd never go to something else. Plus, Orange does not look good on this gal, I prefer Swedish Blue!!
