Is the site healthy?

I deliberately haven't said: 'is the site dying?' but it's important that if anyone else feels that things aren't right that we sort it out while we are all still here. everyday lost is a day more folk leave the fold.

I'm thinking that there are dramatically less threads, posts, visitors, members joining.

over to others among you to say what you think but it 'feels' different.

Taffy

maybe the bergs are getting to good, so there are not enough problems to discuss?

Taffy is correct in his thinking. I found it very hard to get back on the site after the changeover. I managed to get one computer connected. I miss the flea market section. And I think that last year the Force 3 ride generated a lot of posting.

How did i guess who started this thread....

But to be fair it does seem that there is less activity than there used to be with quite a few of the regulars not being seen quite as much.

To counter this there does seem to be a a fair few new members but as lot of these members have the '09 onwards bikes they dont have to ask as many questions as so far they havent got the problems or quirks of the older bikes.

Site usage does come and go in waves though and perhaps we are just in a trough at the moment.

i for one, since i've had the '09 bike havnt had any prblems so find myself coming to the front page and if there are no new threads i dont bother logging in.

perhaps others are doing the same.

I agree with you Cypher, I got a 570 back and am building it the same as my last one, the bike just doesn't really give any trouble much so I don't have to ask any questions here, knock on wood, I do just give the site a quick browse for new stuff every day.

I have ridden many bikes lately and just keep going back to the mighty Berg :)

So is it because the new bikes are that much more reliable and better designed?

Or is it just because the new bikes don't have enough time on them yet?

I have heard that the new bikes are more reliable in general.

I know that Json can give us site traffic numbers and stuff so perhaps he'll interject here.

I feel see need to see double the threads on the opening screen if we could.

Not sure what it is? maybe some little piggy is just trying to wind me up so I start an 'interesting debate!'. however, I'm sticking to my end of the deal (yet again).

maybe we ought to start a video section?

No its not a wind up.

Its the simple truth that i saw the title of the thread and the one name that sprang into my head as the likely starter was you. Strange that isn't it.

I'm actually agreeing with you that site traffic does seem to be down, but then i try to look on the positive side with the possible reasons.

You really do need to stop being so negative.

Vid section does sound good.

Though id imagine it would have to be as a sort of link to something like youtube as hosting the vids would take up space, but im no web designer so schwim can comment on that.

Comment about being unable to get onto the site after the switch over, i cant recall having that problem but would a bulk email out to all registered users of the 'hi, not seen you at Husaberg.org recently, come and see the new site" type get people going again?

People knowing about the site shouldnt be a problem because if you stick "husaberg" in to Google, the most used search engine on the planet, we're the 3rd entry ot brings up after the official Husaberg site.

Another thing i've just noticed is that on the home page there is no button to register as a user until you hit the login button and then it pops up. Could we have as 'register' button beneath the 'log in' button orsomewhere nearby just to make it glaringly obvious for people finding the site for the first time

Thats all my little piggy brain can think of at present.

Taffy i think that sounds good got to keep up with the time's and that'll make things a little more intresting i think.
Allot of guys would like that, vids on rides, services, track days, oh valve check's......

We've got one member from Vancouver Island who seems to be doing enough filming to fill his own video section, cheers Looki.

A bit more helmet cam footage would be good especially of different types of terrain.

So yes to the video section from me.

The new site does seem a bit sterile and impersonal. It doesn't foster a sense of community (either perceived or imagined) like the old one.

The Home page doesn't show who is logged on. If I know that if someone is on that may answer a recent post, that can cause me to hang around awhile and see if there will be an immediate reply or just some good old banter.

The home page recent images doesn't show who the poster was.

Without the web links it sometimes makes it difficult to point someone in the right direction as I can't remember all of the vendors that had been assembled over time.

Also losing the downloads has diminished the resource value.

Jason has done an awesome job and this is in no way meant to be critical of his efforts. It is merely my observation of why the site traffic has slowed.

I am sure things will eventually be worked out.

the tinkerers can't afford them maybe?

if they are that much more reliable I think hberg needs to release a 700 to stress things out a bit.

Hi Guys,
An interesting post, I think that change will always bring some resistance, I think the idea of more posts on the front page is a great one if it's possible.

From a gumby's point of veiw, it was always way fun to grab a beer and scan thru what everyone was posting for a few hours and to a point that's been skimmed down.

For my side the vid section is a good one, I have a great time taking the piss out of myself and mates and cutting some good riding footage, a specific page to link to you tube or vimeo may be the go, even if it was for stills as well.

One small idea is to list a specific area where we can go to find the list of vendors that sponsor the site with direct links to their own sites to order, I know we have the banner that changes, but it actually takes ages to go thru the list, there may be such a place but I couldn't find it.

As I've said before, I've made a point of supporting a shop that supported this website and I made it known to tteh owner that over a 12 month period the 2K + I spent was because of his great service but also becuase he backed up the site...unfortunatley he's closing his doors, so I need to look for another business to deal with.

I'll find one from this site and again make it known why I'm buying from him. One final point, I've found many times that I'll bring the site up, scan for the info or spec that I need and once found blast back to the gargae (via the fridge) and continue working on the 550...so I'll change my process an dalways log on,,at least this will show real usage, it's my thought that many may do the same. When you look at the resource there's a ton of great info here and many are using it I'm sure without signing up...maybe you can close parts of the website to those that aren't signed up and prompt more to join..? I know this is the case for one of the pumpkin sites...It's something you could prmote and it gives this site some exclusivity...you need to sign up to get to the good gear...just an idea

Cheers guys ride safe

one point perhaps Taffy is guys like yourself who make a living from improving bergs no longer share all the technical details of exciting juicy developmental bits on the open forum.

nothing wrong with that, i completely understand. just a contributing factor perhaps ?

im sure the new models can be fiddled with as much as the old ones its perhaps more the type of people who seek out the "reliabilty" rep don't want to do any fiddling.

I didn't have to do anything to my 08 really but that would have bored me to cry tears of blood.

All good points Eric.

I predicted a slow down when the new bikes came out. A) They are just plain more reliable and B) Being injected there was going to be a dramatic slow down in tinkering and modifications. C) The new bikes have brought a different clientele to the table, a more main steam clientele mostly made up of prior and current KTM owners. These new members have no idea as to what it was to own a pre 04 Husaberg during the dark days of no North American importer. It truly built comradery knowing that you and your mates on the site were actually for the most part doing the jobs of the research and development department of Husaberg. D) Face the facts, the pre 09 bikes are getting less and less by the day and that was what the site was primarily built on.
So....do I see the site evaporating....not really. Like Seth said, I can cover all the new posts in a few minutes were before i might spend a few hours giving thoughts, opinions and doing research. The new bikes, I don't have a whole lot to add to and the old bike problems have been discussed ad nauseam. There are answers to 99% of the problems, it's just knowing and remembering were they are.

I have a little expression I say now and again and that is that '50 non-cooks' in a kitchen are still only going to produce beans on toast'. in other words, all the knowledge lays with a limited few.

Just because there are no more of the older bikes being made doesn't mean we have to lay down berger and judging from the layout here it would seem that that though is what we are doing!

Firstly, there is tons of room to develop the LDC bikes - i mean masses!!!!! but none of it HAS to be done out of NECESSATY. what about tuning? hardly touched! with the exception of one aussie I would say the bike has barely been touched. I lost count of the threads about gearing. they're all waiting for me!

I'm so busy I can't sit down and I have lost a lot interest in the site since the detrimental attacks of a year ago and FR3. the site was poorly led and now you're all seeing the results of it. don't blame me - look up.

as far as secrets go, well it could be argued, and rightly so: that I buggered up DL's line of work. If handled well, Dale could have had a great little business like I have (but bigger and better of course - he is from the USA) but he chose tuning and walked away.

I've discovered about 4 things - maybe more (how small is something before it's a 'tip' and not a discovery?) and you know the absolute secrets to three of them. the fourth: you know the benefits of it, just not where I get the product made. I don't have time for a lot of stuff now.

I do learn a lot more in the workshop though now inside each engine. only yesterday, one gearbox cluster laid longer than the other, I measureed everything with the vernier. the output shaft assembly was 0.5mm longer than the input. mmmmm??????? I eventually narrowed it down to the last two gears on the right, then the last gear and then i turned it around and the 0.5mm was gone! turns out second gear should have the numbers on the outside even though it does appear to be an unhanded gear.

But I have to say, if nobody is here this place becomes a self folding stack of cards. we must do something about it while we are all still here. over the years I have brought this very subject up time after time and regular changes have been made to get the site back on track and this is such a time.

technology has moved on over the years and we need to move with it. first things first, the site needs to feel that everyone has a share in it and a right to speak their minds, be listened to (without a slagging) and after due consideration (be completely ignored   ) action can be taken.

I didn't say that the doc couldn't be added too, I haven't stopped anyone giving info to maddel and getting it all sorted. so some of you need to look at yourselves for not volunteering.

one of the first things I'd do given the way the site has gone when I've had these 'digs' is to change the moderators that aren't about and get some non-americans (as in non-USA) people involved. It always seems strange to me that a country so steeped in guns and lawlessness is so polite? a complete juxtaposition.

with a third of the site being european at least (possibly 40-50%) and a good 33% coming from oz: i think we need to spread this around a little....

But at the end of the day, there's nobody been inside a LDC yet so it shows the rather pathetic state of the new generation. at the end of the day, it's people that are the 'X' factor, the interest and not the bikes. it's the people that then make the bikes interesting.

it always amazes me how people can't just say: hey I miss dale? I don't think i've seen it written twice in the last three years.

I'm also lucky enough to be making my living out of all this, I can't understand why enginehardwear couldn't convert his ideas into currency? I think the trouble wasn't the language but that he was simply happy to write what was needed and only just that. a very scando way of doing things and entirely in character. but he also confided that he was exhausted with the 12-hour-day live-and-breath-husaberg lifestyle.

good god! there is another life out there!

regards

Taffy

I think the new site looks good although as previously said a list of who's on line was always useful on the old site, also the number of views and replies per thread was good.
I've had my 03 Berg for 2 years now and in that time have stripped and rebuilt it twice so I feel I know a bit about how to fix them now, so I log daily not only to ask questions but also to answer some too.
I also have a Yamaha WR250f which I have also had for 2 years and am a member of a similar site, it never goes wrong, I've never stripped it down hence I know little about it so I only log on that site in the rare occasion I have a problem.
I think the same applies to the new Berg owners who have never had the pleasure of owning a pre 09 machine, they rarely go wrong it seems so people don't get the know their bikes hence have little to contribute.
Another reason for slowing traffic is the fact that we in Europe have only just come out of winter and our bikes have been tucked away. The weather is warming now and old Bergs will be ridden, this will inevitably lead to problems!
