Is 1998 to 2000 worth the change?

Hi blokes.
I've seen a 2000 FE600E which looks interesting but I'm wondering if anyone thinks the swap from my '98 FE600E would be worth it or even if it would be a good step? The bike would spend most of its time in motard trim, but would get dirty occasionally.

I like my current pre-2001 e-start engine, particularly how it goes on the road, and there are only a couple of improvements to the 2000 model.

2000, however, was the first PDS frame, and was the only one with the older style engine. I'd like to fit my cast motard wheels to the later bike and am unsure if the hubs are similar enough between the two to just drop them on?

Any help or comments would be much appreciated! Thanks, BW

It seems like you won't be swapping the wheels without at least a little trouble. Check this thread for all of the details.

You know that the engine is the same, so I would think the two things that might make your ride a different experience is the suspension and the angle of the dangle on the front forks. If you're happy with your ride, then I'd stick with what you know, unless of course you just need a second Berg. In which case, we wholeheartedly agree :D

I would be interested in buying the 98 if it can be put back into trail riding configuaration and shipping isn't a problem. I live in Colorado. Let me know if that would work for your needs.

longshanks, he lives in Australia. Shipping would require you to sell a child, or blackmail a local official, I'm afraid :D

Thanks for that link to an extremely helpful thread jason. I should have searched myself. As it happens, my bitsa front wheel has the 20mm bearings that would allow it to slip into the 2000 forks like a finger into a, well, you know where!

Reflecting logically, those are my thoughts too, but this bike looks so nice and mine well er... just doesn't. Then again mine is the only one with a smiley face on the end of the zhaust pipe!

Thanks again, BW

PS I've just set up 1.5MB/s broadband and it is FIRETRUCKING TERRIFFIC!!! I know this has nothing to do with bikes but you are one of the few I know who would appreciate it and I had to tell someone....

Don't feel bad, I base most of my purchasing decisions on much less. Grab it if you like it.

Good for you man. I am now officially the only person in my family without it. I'm also the only person in my family that actually uses the internet ;)
