I'm at a loss, what should I do to get this bike running?

Hey if you fined out it's your ingnition . I have a spare old style Sems. That I bought off eBay. I'd sell for cheap! It won't fit my bike. I remember an old mechanic that I was an apprentice for “He always said to me. If you think you have carb problems, its your ingnition. First make sure you have strong spark! My brother made a comment to me the last time we were out riding. (Your bike starts great. I remember the only time you seen a Husaberg in the woods was when someone was trying to start it, those bikes were a ***** to start!) Remember To always keep it simple! Good luck with your starting problem.

Don't hold back Jimmydean! Did you ever get your steed to run with the wind?

One thing that has not been mentioned is how much compression there is in Jimie's motor. I think that was an assumption by all that there was enough compression.

A problem that can occur with high performance four strokes with a super short piston skirt is that when the wrist pin bushing gets worn along with a worn piston, it can allow the piston to rock enough to cause loss of seal of the piston rings. Said bike will pull/push start, but will be very difficult if not impossible to kick start.

If memory serves the old air cooled husky 510's had a problem of the valves not sealing right and this caused major starting headaches. And I think that problem was traced to the valve guides being too tight and causing enough stiction to hold a valve open a little.

However, I am hoping that through all of this it will just be a case of a misadjusted/dirty carb and that $50 bucks get's you up and roostin' your buddies.

Here is something I ran into with my bike.I had gas in the carb but no gas on the plug. When you disassemble the carb check the float valve.Slide the pin out holding the floats and check the valve underneath for a ring in the rubber tip,if a ring has formed, it will not allow any gas to enter the engine.Worth a check and I hope this helps.

It's ALIVE!!!

OK, after talking to some random guy at my daughters horse stables, he told me to double check the valves because his KTM gets like that when his exhaust valves aren't closing fully. So I pulled everything apart so I could get a good look at them and sure enough, it looked like the exahust valves were staying open a little. I broke my feeler guage trying to get to them, so I just loosened them a little (snug to the valve, then back out a 1/4 turn), put it all back together and BINGO. Started on the third kick when the motor was cold (It's 35 degrees right now in the garage).

So it was running, I messed with the mix and idle a little, but it's also a little late to be reving the motor, so I shut it down until tomorrow after work, then I'll se if I can dial it in and run it a bit.

Now it seems to be a lot harder to kick over though. I can't just kick it through 100 times like I could before. Now I kick it once and have to use the decomp lever to kick it through twice, then I can kick it again. Do I need to adjust the lever, or did I do the valves wrong?

All I know is it was running and it hasn't done that for 2 weeks! So I hope I did SOMETHING right. Thanks again for all the good feedback, I didn't pull the radiator last time, so the exahust wasn't checked as well as it should have been.
