I don't think there is any argument that the 09 Husaberg will be a bigger sales success if it is street legal in as many markets as possible.
The more difficult question is how much of its "race ready" specification will have to be comprimised to achieve the street legal status in markets with the most strict regulations.
As well, will the cost of this certifacation be recovered with enough sales to justify the effort and expence.
For me ,I am with Bigbob,I think this new bike needs to be street legal everywhere.

Not being street legal does hurt sales. Ant idea if Husky sells more txc or te, or if KTM sells more xc/xc-w or exc?

These new Husa-berg and BMW prototypes have apparently been homologated so that they can compete with them and they have been competing. That is not bad considering that they are not on the market and you can not buy them at any cost. If they can pull that trick then why would it be impossible for them to get them street legal if they wanted?

Bad news. It will NOT be street legal in North America. They cant get the gas tank to meet EPA standards.

Hi Scott,
It is entirely possible that the current tank will not pass the evaporitive emission standards.I see that as a hurdle to be crossed, either by a change of tank design/construction or by other means i.e. using the low volume manufacturer model averaging clause.
I really dont like that word "can't" ...

Didn't one of the manufacturers, maybe KTM, go to a different type of material to make the evaporative test for the tank? I think Honda just coated the inside of their tanks, while the Yamaha uses a double walled tank. I mean, KTM had to do something to make their tanks pass.

Husky seems to have gotten it right by selling the bike with the cat converter in the muffler, and O2 sensor in place to make it a closed loop system, all for the emissions. Then you can buy for around $400 USD, the closed course kit, which puts a plug in the O2 bung, and the computer sees this open and switches to the closed course mapping. And you replace the stock exhaust with an Arrow exhaust that comes with the kit. This seems like the way to go, as with the KTM it is still carb'ed and it comes super lean as well. The Husky idea seems real simple.

Here's hoping that the 09's have a good run in the upcoming ISDE!!

I think race ready is fine. Just on the other side of the mountains I ride in, you can get them from dealer street legal(for a fee). Lucky for me I have a in-law in NV.
I have my loop hole. Street legal sadly is becoming a must in California. CA Green sticker and NV plate. Keep your Green sticker to show are number of OHV in Nor Cal.
