Honestly,
I believe such devices are most often seen on podium visitors as a result of paid advertisement.
Take oil endorsements for an example. I know of several teams using DELO 400 yet flying the banner of various oil sponsors.
People follow the leader.
Example:
Our initial Husaberg race engines were very difficult to start. Once we had an engine running for a race we were very reluctant to turn it off. Since dirttrackers are less kick start and consequently must be pushed we were hesitant to shut our engine down when blocked in staging and / or during a race re-start.
In order to keep our engine cool while stationary I began using a hand held water bottle wetting down the radiator once the temperature exceeded 212 Fahrenheit.
Kenny started winning races and low and behold water bottle mania!
Mind you most of our competition could shut down and quite readily re-start their engines effortlessly.
Only once was I asked why and that was by a child.
I answered in a whisper "she is only a 400, If I keep watering maybe she will grow into a 600".
