I've just come across this site. I've seen stuff advertised on ebay through Taffmiester and wondered who's behind it.

I've had my FS650e now for 2 years. 2002 model registered in 2003, just over 4000 miles. It has been well looked after & serviced more than ridden. The bike has a couple of modifications: 03 cam for more torque & the electric starter has been removed to lighten the bike, both were done at Dave Clarke Racing.

Busy stripping it down for a freshen up before the summer comes. Been reading tonight about changing to the IXU24 plug. I think i'll become a regular, from the comments I should be due a major engine failure.... look forward to sharing some berg stories with you's.

Dan

Hi Dan and welcome, I like your way of thinking with regard to the state of your engine, most would say 'I'm due a rebuild' you say ' I'm due a major engine failure', I am going to copy your style if I may, I too am due one of the above but with the cost of the ' I'm due a rebuild' option being out of my reach at the moment due to recent addition of a WR250F to the stable, I will hang on for the ' I'm due a major engine failure'.
Cheers Dan, you've just saved me £1200!

Taffmeister here..........!

the cost of a rebuild should be 50 - 100% cheaper than a blow up. in a blow up any self respecting mchanic changes anything that there could be any doubt over. then you have the damage itself and finally due to metal laying everywhere and things having been hit or twisted you must be spotlessly clean and measure everything.

if you're on a price = great, if not = the meter is running!!!!!!!!!!!!

regards

Taffy

Obviously you are right Taffy, a precautionary rebuild would be far better than repairing a motor with the con rod poking out of the cases, It's just the ammount of money at takes. Your prices are perfectly reasonable as are many other rebuilders. The problem with the berg is the fact that you have to split the cases just to replace the rings or the piston, whilst your in there you may as well replace everthing else and thats what makes it pricey. Any other single cylinder bike can have the barrel and piston changed within a matter of hours by anyone with a reasonable mechanical background.
I'm not running my berg down here, it's the best road bike I've owned, been out for an hour this morning and can't stop smiling, started 2nd kick too!
The bike only cost me £1500 and with a rebuild costing 80% of the purchase price I think I'll risk it for another summer and see what happens.
I feel this post may come back to haunt me one day this year!

cba searching so il just ask on here, whats the general recommended 'precautionary rebuild' run hours ?? mine is upto 70ish so far

Hello.

I think my first post has made me out as tho I've got a total disregard for the state of my bike. This isn't the case, but from all the stories I've read I wouldn't be able to ride the bike as I'd like until I come to terms that it WILL break. Until then I'll service and pamper it as much as the next guy.

I'm from the North East (Whitburn) not far from Sunderland.

ah cool, im north west way. Devils bridge and the back roads round lancaster (trough area) are my playground !

bikes looks nice too, though i love ALL Bergs :)

Hiya dan, im from co durham, id meet up to go riding for a day with you somewhere but you have the wrong wheels/tyres on the bike lol!!!
