after posting on a thread about heat shields bergdude pm'd me to suggest bringing a couple over to FR'07.

better plan is this.
here is a link to the chap who sells them - alloy guards

have a look. if you want one 2 options. buy direct or if there's a few i can contact him direct and try to get some sort of a bulk order discount.

obviously time is short so i'll see what the response is over the next week. it also depends on if i got spare luggage allowance.

or someone in the US could just cheat and copy them for those interested.

ps. don't know the chap. nothing to do with me and he lives miles away.

had a set when he first started doing them and they've done the job well. heat shield especially.

a working alternative

I tried to rig something for the header section since the orange products are all right handed (backwards).

I scrapped the Swiss cheese aluminum hose clamp shields and ended up wrapping the entire exhaust (short of the silencer) with Header Tape. It is a VHT proof fabric that you wrap like grip tape. seal the ends with thin steel bands (not hose clamps). Costs about 25$ U.S. for 25' , enough for 1 complete plus a few feet.

It is primarily manufactured for Drag Racing to keep heat in the headers which somehow improves exhaust flow. But it is a really good insulator that only adds about 4 mm to the outside dimension.

When wrapped with no exposed metal you can touch it briefly with a bare hand (even in front of the cylinder) and way too long with a gloved hand. I have not had a burn or any heat related damaged clothing since installing in 2003.

I believe it is rated at 2000 degree f. briefly and 1000 to 1200 deg continuous. I do know that there is a paint like coating that can be used to color it black, It is rated under 1000 deg by itself but 1200 if applied to the fabric
