Heat shield...not the header one...the heel one

I am working on a home grown solution. I made a heat guard for the front part of the pipe (see attached), and am doing the same for the rear part.

Here you go T_I_G_E_R, the zip tie holds up well and doesn't look bad IMO.2.JPG[/attachment:20227prw]1.JPG[/attachment:20227prw]

The zip tie thing definitely works well for a temporary measure. At least you can cut it if you needed to remove it. Personally I riveted them together. A bit more of a permanent fix. Works great and looks good too. Over a year now with no problems.

Here you go tiger. Another option i was considering was using a small bolt and nut so you could undo it if needed.

Here's my home grown solution to this little problem. The material is 5/64 inch aluminim alloy. The primary attachment point is the screw for the rear bodywork, with a length of safety wire from a hole at the bottom of the guard to the loop on the midpipe, and a high temp zip tie around the frame with a short length of electrical insulation to protect the frame from stratches. The lightning/cooling holes are 1/4 inch in a 3/8 inch grid. The guard is bent at the bottom to follow the curvature of the midpipe, and also from rear to front. Wasn't hard, but I burned the daylights out of my thumb holding the alloy with a welding glove while heat working it.

Sorry to jump in do any of you guys have a prob with the front wheel not spinning more than one spin. my fs is less than 3 hrs on it your help would be welcome. The only thing I did was put the berg slider aka bobins through the axle :?:

Guys:

I am waiting on my suspension so now is a good time for me to wrap things up in terms of getting my bike ready for my first outing. Where can I buy the frame guards? My bike is a 2011 FE 570 S. is it just a dealer item? Am I to gather that the exhaust in close proximity to the frame heats the frame up to a point where it will melt boots/pant legs?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Noooooo, you are not to gather, aphrehend, understand, deduce, or otherwise conclude that the frame will get hot enough to melt anything! The exhaust pipe gets hot. Very hot. If you're wearing nylon riding pants it'll melt them on contact and it'll stick to the pipe and maybe to your skin. If you're wearing riding boots with rubber soles it'll melt them on contact. If you crash and the bike lands on top of you with the pipe in contact with you, it won't be the frame that blisters your skin.

Boought a 2011 FE 570 S last week and frame guards are on order. Where does one get this heat shield barrier material?

could you use a couple of these to attach a home made heat shield? They are made by MRD for a DRZ heat shield, but the hose clamps should be the right size, or close enough.

If you're talking about the location just to the rear of the frame near the rider's right boot heel, I think it would be a neat trick just to get those clamps tightened around the exhaust.

this is what i came up with, i've got the fmf full ti exhaust, which melted away the plastic guard, whipped this one up out of aluminum

Very nice, indeed!
Two questions:
- What is it rivited to on the forward edge?
- Is it painted or did you have it anodized?

Well, son of a gun. My 2011 FE570S doesn't have those two tabs on the rear edge of the frame.

if i'm understanding him correctly those two holes aren't on our frames they were made in "what's left of" the frame guard.
