Hi all, does anyone know about the cursed yellow box that is the gatso? I was on my way back up the motorway after popping into Taffy's place, around 7.30 pm. (Nice to finally put a face to a name, nice chap that Taffy). When i got a single flash from a camera, i was only approx 8 to 10 mph above the limit at 78 to 80 and i have been worrying ever since!!
I have found some info out but wondered if any one might have the facts??
Here is what i've read so far:
The GATSO box can contain any of the following:-
- Nothing at all
- A GATSO 24 Radar with full control box, flash gun and "AUS" camera.
- A GATSO 24 Radar with a "Dummy head" control box and a flash gun (no actual camera).
The "real" GATSO, when operating fully automatic, is approved only for use against going-away traffic (unless there is a policeman actually "operating" or "attending" it).
The "Dummy head" box does not contain the electronics that work out if the vehicle is coming towards or going away - so it flashes when any vehicle in its view exceeds the limit - regardless of which way it was going. Also it flashes only once.
Your "going-towards" flash was a warning from a dummy GATSO.
Sometimes the dummy will be replaced with a real one and on those days anyone "going-away" too quickly will be getting a fine but people "coming towards" too quick will not be flashed at all.
Sorry Jason if this is not the right place for this thread>>
