Hello all ,

Changed fork oil this weekend as I do often on rainy weekends .
However this time I measured the unloaded spring length , and
found it to measure 16 mm less than when I installed them two
seasons ago . The springs are also 11 mm shorter than the OEM
units wich were in the bike for 1 season .
Is this common , long term tension on spring , any ideas ?

Forks are 2002 4860's

Thanks ,
Ryan

Has anyone measured the free length of their fork springs ?

My fork springs are 494 mm long .

Thanks , Ryan

Ryan, as far as I know, the springs getting shorter is normal, the term I have used is "sacked out". If the fork spring is still offering good bottoming resistance, I would not worry about it.

Hi Bendberg ,
Springs are as I call it played out . They bottom constantly.
I have a very aggressive rider forward riding style . The
problem has been getting progressively worse , adjusters are 1
click out , oil height 90 mm down .
I do ride quite frequently every day at least 1 hour . Mostly
soft terrain and MX practice .
New springs are on their way. Just curious about spring
length . I knew the spring tension was poor , but surprised to find
them that much shorter than when installed .

Cheers , Ryan
