I like Taffy's idea!
Instead of using the BMG bike for a race effort, how about taking a Fe model, street plating it, and riding it across North America. It could be passed from one UHE member to the other as it works its way across the continent. Not only could it be an excercise to verify the reliability of the bike but groups of riders (UHE members) could meet each other.Sort of a force ride in motion.
Don't hold back if you think its a dumb idea :D

nsman, taffy That is a brilliant idea I would jump on that in a heart beat.

I bet it would be relativley easy to plan and carryout. with brett's new van as the chase vehicle... it would be a no brainer!

Simply attempting to start the beast should prove exciting. LOL

Dale

Dale you're more than welcome to kick my bike over as many times as you want with the plug wire removed... pretty much the same thing. However in true 501 tradition, you have to push it a mile through the sand when your done kicking...

As Brendan said before I am going to do the trans America trail and have no worrys about doing it on my 05 fe550. After all I had a 01 fe501 that got 8,000 miles before anything went south 8O

I will ride the bike the rest of this year and freshen it up before the trip. With the reliability and dealer support now I cant see a problem. It is easier to do the maintenance on the 550 than it is on a DRZ400. Ok you would not even have to adjust the valves on the DRZ but it is such a turd what fun is that.

I think I am going to take a silencer and make a fuel cell out of it and hang it on the right side of the bike should hold over a gallon and balance the looks from the back of the bike and leave room for saddle bags. Got to have a change of shorts on a 2700 mile trip

Brendan get the berg fixed!!!!!!!!!!!

Brendan come over for the Fatheresday ride!

Brendan tell me about China!!!!!!

Hi Powercell,
Being the consummate professional (and know it all smart a** in general) I feel the need to point out that such an action could quite possibly result in damage to the CDI unit.

Such being said, thank you for the kind offer. :D

Sincerely,
Dale

The ride could start in Halifax,N.S.,with Kelsow dipping the tire in the Atlantic ocean,he could give it to me and I would deliver via the Digby -St.John NB ferry to Coffin,Coffin could deliver it to Jedi near Fredriction NB and Jedi could take it to woodstock and give the bike a good service VIA bob slipp. As BMG headquarters are only minutes from the Terminus of Interstate 95 it could be delivered across the border there to......who can take it from here?

Nsman, Great idea. Start at BMG Canada, ride to Dales in San Fran, give Dale some much needed publicity (I'm sure it would resemble that Jesse James special we have all seen), ship to Australia (can't leave those guys out), ride across Aus, then ship to Bergroadracer in Greece, ride through Europe up to Sweden, then leave the bike on the Husaberg R&D front door, on fire!!!

That oughtta get someone's attention. Oh, and enter a few races on the way, just to show em who's the boss!!!

-Parsko

BTW, I'll take the mid-Euro section!

NS, I think it's a great idea, with one exception: If you propose using only UHE members, that means I'll have to ride the beast from the Colorado border all the way to Ohio, being as I'm the only UHE member around these here parts. I do however feel that my old arse is still hard enough to handle the conservative estimate of 29 million vibration cycles produced by the Berg engine. Whoever is riding the bike, tell them they are welcome to stop by Doctor Corey: Automotive Diagnostic Specialist for a FREE OIL CHANGE and VALVE ADJUSTMENT!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

This is shaping up to be one heck of a long distance bike and rider endurance test.

If it actually happens I hope it would get some exposure in one of the moto magazines.

What? Why? A long distance road trip on a Husaberg? What does that proove? I don't get this at all. Do the Michigan 500, or Colorado 500, or one of those other offroad elbow rubbing get togethers, that would be better press. Send BOSS (or other Hbg representative) and Jimmy Lewis on a pair of Huseys with 5 sets of tires and mousses and cameras.

I wonder if people that want a DS Husey also put 20" low profile pimp wheels and performance road tires on their f-350 crew cab powerstroke 4x4?

  Oh,dear, did I say Schwim? I meant Taffy, of course. Does anyone know what he's doing these days?

You may be surprised by the number of dual-sported Husaberg owners that already grace the UHE member list. I seriously doubt that any of them/us have "pimp wheels" on anything.

My personal all time favorite bike is my present dual-sported Fe501. It gets me between riding areas with aplomb and is easily superior to any race bike that I rode when actively racing.
Unless the fact that I am no longer racing disqualifies me from Husaberg ownership and an opinion, I applaud the idea of a cross country ride with UHE members trading off. Support vehicles and companion riders can take photos and chronicle the trip. (why not use 2 Husabergs?)I'd suggest trying to keep as much off-road in the trip as possible. Gearing and tire changes can easily be made.
Please extend the route far enough south to offer Tex , AZ , N.M , and NV riders a piece of the action. I know that I'd volunteer to go from Phoenix to 'Vegas or 'Vegas to somewhere North or West.

I disagree that it is not newsworthy. One more bike in any major race is not notable. A transcontinental ride on a HUSABERG is!

Hi Dez,

I agree such to be a "grand idea" and as mentioned earlier made a similar pitch to BMG some two years earlier.

Such an idea may have simply been ahead of it's time and / or perhaps my approach was all wrong. :?

Lack of proper marketing perhaps? Should have done lunch. LOL

Hope you are doing well.

Kind Regards,
Dale

what am i up to?

well i lost my business of ten years with debts to pay, spent 7 weeks out of work awaiting a lecturing job which lasted 8 weeks before the company lost the contract and i lost my job. i then spent a further 6-weeks unemployed over christmas before getting work with anyone i know. landscaping, building foreman, groundworker. you name it-i'm doing it.

the rule in the UK is that if you're self-employed you can't get state benifit. and i didn't so those 13 weeks. do i need to say more! the lecturing was for a private company that sub contracted me out and they haven't paid me correctly so i've got a solicitor on the job. how much? don't ask!

so as you can imagine, when i tell you that the husey has been costing me quite a bit lately (7 practice days, 2 x DNF in 2 rides for the last two sundays, clutch set, two new tyres, chain, oil, filters and cleaner, lenses, helmet, pads, plastics, a sprocket, fork oils, shims, a new rear spring, plugs, plug cap, flow valves) i have been on my arse.

did manage austria skiing as my only break for a weekend since moab last year.

yep been hard, no longer infront of a computer and all of a sudden there are other things between me and my husey. i'm even thinking of jacking it in as far as the racing goes and just getting it street legal again to green lane locally and "get away from it all" at weekends instead.

i'm also trying to buy a house....

it'll come right. three rugby mates have found me all this work-where else could i get help like that?

i enjoyed getting the doc ready. i spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME on it when i should have been pro-active looking for work. but i'm glad i did it as a lasting and positive input into the site.

however i'm unlikey to be able to keep it up-nor i think am i willing too given that the bike i ride is now out of date. the site needs many things to change and of course it's becoming less personal and the justification for doing it has been that we help each other in a relatively tight group. right?

this is still the only place i wanna visit and now the suspension work is 3 parts done i'm not on ktmtalk hoovering up the info anymore/as much.

regards

Taffy
