Free wheel hub failure (second time)

Hello,

I have a small problem that my free wheel hub (800.40.025.000) lost couple tooth for the second time during last 40 hours, so I have two questions:

1. How to avoid such failure in the future?
2. Can I remove free wheel gear with all components and use my bike with kick starter till new spares arrives?

This happens when the torque limiter is set too tight... been there and done that myself twice before I learned. It usually happens when you stall the engine and it kicks backwards.. the torque limiter does not slip and the freewheel cannot hold the engine from turning over backwards against the starter motor, so it snaps the teeth off.

If you have had your torque limiter apart and added shims, then you have it too tight. I would suggest taking the torque limiter apart, checking it out, perhaps buying a shim kit from taffy and using his procedure to set the point where it will slip... but be careful and don't go too tight, because it will end up breaking more teeth.

You can definitely remove it along with the torque limiter and just use the kickstart... this is how the FC models are built with no e-start.

yes it is, but still i have one question how much Nm i have to use for torque limiter?

Not sure what the right breakaway torque is... but it would be safest to start low in my opinion, otherwise you will break more teeth on the freewheel gear.

See this thread... there are some different thoughts on it.

Also, if you buy Taffy's kit he will supply the instructions to disassemble and reassemble the torque limiter, along with breakaway torque specs.

I set it to about 25Nm and eventually broke the hub. So did my brother, twice. Mine lasted about two months until it broke but his only lasted about a week.

Now it is set to 13Nm and the starter still spins the motor fine and hopefully the hub lasts a bit longer ...

chunked clutch basket teeth will do this and the odds go up considerably when it happens twice. the teeth on the freewheel are tall and fragile.

Thanks to every one fo the answers, but free wheel is ordered (3-4 days), instruction is also in place (danke Taffy),

Today I went for the ride with my husaberg whit out starter and you know then berg is starting from the first or second kick i even started to think maybe initial idea of the electric starter was for the older motor drivers :)

It was really good experience to use kick starter, i even learned that it is not so problematic as i was expecting.
