Hey!

Can anyone help me out on were to get a flywheel puller in the uk (im in glasgow scotland).?
The thread on the flywheel is 26mm x 1 and they dont seem to make a tap that size or id have made my own puller by now LOL

The engine was gave to me after being "seized". But it does turn, sometimes fine for 10+ rotaions then seems to randomly jam up but will turn fine in the opposite direction. Ive stripped almost everything down and all thats really left is to get this flywhelel off so i can split it. Bore seems fine altho the piston does "rock" abit in th bore, is this normal? :?

Cheers

RE: Flywheel puller

The regular flywheel puller for the KTM RFS engine works fine. M26 x 1.0 RH thread on the flywheel. You didn't say what year the bike is, I assume you have a Kokusan ignition. Try your KTM dealer or check with the local aftermarket suppliers.

ask dave clarke racing of preston or gary grover racing of newbury - if you're stuck!

download the service manual for specs on the piston and barrel.

go into downloads for this.

look through the doc for rebuild info and tuning for improvements from later years that fit whatever you have!

regards

Taffy

Sounds like the main bearings.

RE: Re: Flywheel puller

Hey thanks for all the replys.
Well the bike is a 2004 fe 450 that has been SERIOUSLY neglected, when i went to pick it up the engine was laying on its side in a muddy patch of grass :|
Oh it gets worse!.... Someone made an attempt at removing the head with a screwdriver and hammer without taking out ANY bolts :| Lucky enough they never got far enough in to do any fatal damage (i hope) but the gouge marks do get very close to the waterways and it doesnt look pretty at all as you can imagine.
Im going to see if i can arrange to get a loan of maxs puller incase i end up not buying the bike (dont want to go buying a tool for a bike that will probably never get fixed if i dont do it)
Anyone give me an idea at what im going to be looking at paying for a set of main bearing if it is them.

Cheers

RE: Re: Flywheel puller

sent you a pm, feel free to bring what parts you got to w/shop an we can deduct from there whats good an bad. cheers

RE: Re: Flywheel puller

Well got the engine split, thanks to jon (maxspiced) and his flywheel puller :D
Looks like the left main inner race lost a chunk (found a few bits of it in the bottom of the case) so thats knackerd, its took the balance weight bearing with it and idler shaft bearing is rough aswell. Everything else seems ok but i will at the very least change the right main aswell but might just end up replacing the rest of the bearings depending on the cost (anyone any ideas? is it easy enough to get them from a bearing supplier?)
Anyone got any tricks for getting the inner races off the crank without the special tool?

cheers

rabno1,

I don't know where you live, but I buy most of my bearings from www.kamandirect.com They have a facility a few miles from my home. All you need is the part numbers off of the bearings and seals. They ship to your door!

Or since your Husaberg is an 04 or later model, you can use part numbers in your Husaberg Parts Manual and order them direct from www.ktmworld.com They ship worldwide.

Regards,

Joe

RE: Re: RE: Re: Flywheel puller

Thanks for the replys, guess ill give my local bearing supplier a try first (no doubt be the cheapest for me). As for getting the bearing inner off the crank  not had much luck, tried heating and pulling it off but not wanting to budge.

RE: Re: RE: Re: Flywheel puller

heat it untill its dull red (on one side only)you dont want too much heat into the good bits, then wallop it with a hammer to swell it up , and you will find it will drop off.

RE: Re: RE: Re: Flywheel puller

You actually tried this method yourself and successfully used the crank afterwards? LOL

RE: Re: RE: Re: Flywheel puller

Anyone else got any thoughts on scraps method for removing the bearing inners from the crank? Or anyone else like to share there method for doing it.

Not having a go at your method scrap (might end up using it LOL).

once i too could not remove race from crank end so you must use a small
cut off wheel on your die grinder beeing careful to not go all the way through
or mark shaft, then back it up again'st something firm & with a nice chizzel
you will crack it in two. hope this helps.
