Howdy:
I just getting done with a complete, stem to stern, rebuild of my new to me 2009 FE450.
It was sold to me as " good to go" . Famous last words, right? The only place it was good to go to was the shop!
Anyway, everything but the motor was rebuilt. You have never seen such a messed up, and corroded bunch of bearings.
Maybe finish this weekend.
If you need bearing replacement info, drop me a line!!! LOL
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Geez, what a mess. The swing arm bearings were completely destroyed during removal. the front axle spacers were nearly worn through!:

Good job! This makes me slightly nervous though. I just bought a FE 450 -10 (or late -09) that I havent seen other than on photos. Picking it up this weekend and previous owner lives on an island of the west coast of Sweden - very close to salt water. And he used the exact same words "Don't worry, its good to go" ;)

Any tips of places to look for corrosion? Front axle spacers? Can you inspect them without removing the front wheel? Any hints or tips of what to look for and what I might need to replace is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The bearings in the swingarm are most often **** after some time. Salt water or not. Also the wheel bearings go quite quick if it's been used for normal wet Swedish enduro, specially if it's been high pressure washed which is the norm.
I use thick grease made for outboard engines to protect those bearings. Unless the previous owner took it apart and greased it up, or did it when he changed bearings, one can expect them to be ****. It's normal.

Yes I do the same

I stuff all the space with grease, bearing and seals

The space that is occupied with grease the water (that will ruin your bearings) won't get in

Could I ask for a product name or link? Kind of hard to find things over here sometimes :) Exact info super valuable, if only to track down same category stuff. Thanks!!

I bought "maxima racing oils waterproof grease". Can't remember from where. I don't think it matters really, as long as you find a heavy grease made for outboard engines transmission you are fine. The color blue was the tip I got, the grease should be blue.. So take a walk to the Reykjavik harbor and ask :)
