Enduro to MX setup

Hello Fellas, happy christmas

got chance of a 08 FE 450 and although ill be doing a few enduros on it, my main use for it will be motocross. Any good tips or known tricks for adapting to be more comfortable for motocross than enduro? All the road going kit will be off straight away, i was just thinking more the lines of suspension like how different are fork internals from enduro to mx, rear shock is it just softer spring and damping/ rebound settings? Then gearing etc what is stock on the enduro FE models?

Will be it easier to buy a old FC model?

Thanks

we have the same forks a the KTMs so you want a styraight copy of their internals. you can get them by hunting down the suspension forum on ktmtalk.com. the info there isvery good. as for the rear shock well there are lads here that would tell you what would be a ball park set up. we have an uprigt shock and they have an angled one. the movement ratios are threrefore different but when something is a mile away and someone puts you within spitting distance are you going to complain!

if you're from the UK then 'full travel' at bury st edmunds will know quite a bit about them.

i wouldn't go back because everything about the bikies gets improved and that bike is 4 years old now.

regards

Taffy

I have a 98' FC600 in immaculate condition, brays any bike out there, but i bet it would break you, its broke me several times

Thanks Taffy, very useful info thanks. Main reason with the 08 over a 04/ 05 Fc is a fresh engine, if i can get good comfortable setup then ill be pleased. One of local mx lads aquired a brand new fc 450 from dave clarke in march and qualified at Donnington british champs on it, so they can be that bad.

My dad just sold his old 97 berg on ebay not long ago and ive always had a strange passion for them since the Smets days when i was an 8 yr old nipper.

Yes im in England, in north east

oh bloody hell lol

for purely MX Id chuck the forks or if brand new sell as unused on ebay or Ktalk and get jap TCs from a 450 with stiff springs in allready. should be cheap considering the springs are allready in them. the new KYBs are the shiznit you want the ones with the big cartridge ID and big Base valve body. or equivalent showas.

consider the weight distribution of the berg and an extra 15 KG bike weight puts the front springs at about 0.52 - 0.54 in theory to be equivalent to a jap 450 MX bike with 0.47s

on the rear Im not sure with a WP clown tube shock but perhaps you'd need a very progressive spring.

please let us know how it goes

don't feel on yer lonesome rgarding the uspension, whilst we aren't all MX boys we have spit the atm as far as WP orks and shocks go. name the malaise and we'll name a cure. suggest you also do a search through >forums> suspension. you'll find plenty. we used to have plenty of MX riders here but i think that the WP units would kill anyone...well as they come they would!!!!

i have the suspension shim stacks etc for the '08 enduro rear shock if you want to know them beforehand BTW...

regards

Taffy
