Dual Sporting a 1997 FX600e

I recently purchased a Ca. plated frame for my 97 FX600e.

The wiring harness is the same as the FE. It has no provision for blinkers as does the Euro wiring harness or the U.S. FEE model. I was talking to Baja Designs, their Husaberg kits are for 03 and up Bergs and are designed to run DC power exclusively.

A couple of questions to begin:

Does the 97 run AC to the headlamp and DC to the rest? (no headlamp so I can't check for HL flicker)

Can you convert this model to 100% DC ? (SEM stator)

Why would a BD kit work on a 03 which has a SEM also but not on a 97 ? (or does it and they don't really know with regard to anything earlier than an 03)

How many watts go to the battery from the stator ? (BD says that 20 watts are the minimum to run their basic kit off DC with 80 being ideal.

Can Sparks rewind/modify a SEM for 100% DC power or for a higher wattage to the battery ?

Its very important that the battery remains fully charged and does not get run down as it is almost impossible to kick start due to lack of a kick start activated decompressor. Auto only.

Lights should be AC voltage.
You might want to have a look at the valve adjustment and the auto decompression device. I would think you would be able to kick start it if everything was working properly.

My 98 FE 600 has the headlight and I have no problems with power from the sparks stator. I used the Baja Designs handlebar switch along with their horn and I think rear turn signals. I found some cheapies for front turnsignals and mounted them to the headlight. I think I had to move my starter switch and used a WR 450 switch installed next to the throttle. I just moved my wiring harness to the opposite side and had to disconnectt all my connections behind the headlight and start over. There is a blue wire that comes up from the back (I think) and that connects to the power in for the BD switch. Everything else seemed to be plug and play. I used a tester since I forgot where the wires go and didn't even blow a fuse! If you need some help let me know

Thanks Schultzy:

Did you use a Baja designs wiring harness?

So you essentially purchased this switch:

Ran power to it and then from the switch ran wiring to turn lamps, horn etc?

I found the Baja designs switch and flasher didn't last much make it pass DMV inspection. Maybe thats what they designed to do??? I got a good switch (works with magura clutch)from sicass racing and the led Tail light from DRC. I got the wire and heat shrink for harness from Frys electronics. It has lasted two bikes.

Same exact switch that I have on my 'berg. It has worked great for three years.

Looks like a nice place, lots of good stuff. I will have to check them out in the future when I break off my rear turn signals! I dont have a front brakelight swtch, but neither does my BMW F650. I also dont have a keyed ignition switch, dont think I really need it.

RE: fe 600 dualsport

guys wondering if any 1 can tell me what else i will need to get my fe 600 running the lights off a battry will there be any other components needed for this conversion and would my stator need to be changed?
