Buyers advice Newbie

Hi all , finally got round to having another go at trouble shooting My recently bought FE450

So after running problems already mentioned above I tried to kick it over today with no luck.
I removed carb and removed all the new jets i bought in a kit recently. put them back in again and after a lot of kicking she fired up It stalled and then wouldn't kick up again for at least half an hour then i altered the tick over screw to drop the revs and she died and wouldn't start again so i gave up ....

Carb is set up as follows

Main jet 162

Air jet 85

pilot 36

clip is now in 7th groove on needle it was in 8th groove

Fuel mixture screw 1.5 turns out from gently seated

If the bike is revved up the revs hang and don't drop with the throttle action ...ive checked the cables i don't think
they are snagging .but the tick over screw was wound in to keep the revs up as i didn't want it to stall. no popping at all .....

Cheers

Adam

Can I ask what fuel you are using?
I remember a few years back when I rebuilt my old KDX250, i wanted the best for the bike so I filled it up with premium unleaded (98 octane)..

I kicked and kicked, pulled it apart trying to trouble shoot the problem for weeks until someone mentioned the trouble the higher octane fuel has with some bikes.

I then emptied the tank, filled it with standard fuel and what do you know it started first kick.

Just a thought?

give me a call Adam

richer should mean safer running yet you've gone straight into the mouth of the whale by going from 168 to 162MJ and you've also gone from clip 9 to clip 7?

there isn't a 36PJ made so not sure what you have? should be a 38PJ. the PAJ should be around a 65 and not an 85.

your PS needs to be out with your present jetting another turn until the engine dies down to idle quickly. it should 'chop' down HARD.

Hi all
Just considering new chain and sprocket options for my 2007FE 450 what do people recommend please ?

The bike will be ridden off road in woods and steep hill conditions and some open track I'm looking for a blue coloured rear sprocket and o ring chain

Thanks

Adam

fwiw I like Dirt Tricks Ironman rear sprockets - they last basically forever. Super hard steel. Not available in blue though :(

RK and DID chains are the decent ones I can buy locally. Small market here so probably a much wider selection elsewhere.

I'd look into a Dirt Tricks sprocket + chain package deal I think.

Here's a great site to see the effect of different sprocket sizes: http://www.gearingcommander.com/

.. p.s. the new Dirt Tricks Ironman SE sprockets are available in a iridescent chrome something coating, might look pretty cool on a Berg

if you get the tick over screw too far in (clockwise), the idle will be too hi to allow the choke (enrichener) to work. if too far out, will try to start but won't light off. ideally, the position will be where the screw just pushes the slide off the bottom, but hard to tell where it is while on the bike. try from the too far out side and keep turning in 1/4 turn at a time till it will start and idle. don't use choke after first couple trys. recheck your jets like taffy says. also what is the needle you are using?
