thanks to all the guys that helped with trying to find out what was wrong with it,but as it turns out its the gearbox engine turns over but the gearbox is locked,i dont have the funds to fix or the knowhow, the bike is a 57plate dcr bike with a tuned 550 motor big piston fully worked head jetted carb, slipper clutch, full aki system, wds rear air shock, reworked fromt forks, custom alloy tank loads of spares like all the road gear spare bodywork, road registered,i spoke to a guy i know he recons £300-400 fix for him to do it,but if you are mechanacally minded it would be cheaper,

open to sensible offers or may break if i get enough interest....p/m me with querys

Please don't take this personally, as we all have our limits, but...

You put that much time, effort, and loot into the bike and 3-400pounds has broken you??? Maybe you could sell a few of the bits and keep her???

agree with parsko

also, you went to pay for some fuel having ridden into the petrol station.

that's not gearbox? that's not "gearbox" FFS! the only way that's gearbox is if it welded itself up upon stopping!

so give us all the diagnosis and WHY you KNOW it's the gearbox?

i think that a really clean bike like yours needs repairing. if you give me the fuel tank and can find a black plastic one to take it's place i will do the first day and a half for free. figure it's a 20 hour job if parts are quickly accessed and the bike turned around?

hi taffy,i spoke to a guy down south who run me through stripping and finding the fault, heres how i've come to the conclusion its the gearbox....

removed left hand side casing,to expose all internals.
put 30mm socket on nut below cam chain, and turned engine over.

now i can move bike in neutral no probs.
put bike in gear and rear wheel locks, when i push it forwards
guy i spoke to said he thinks a gear has lost teeth and is the cause of the problem..

the only other thing that could cause this was something jambed on the kickstart mechanism..(this is my thinking not the guys)...

i've allready spent a small fortune on the bike, and im not happy that something as simple as kicking the bike to start it would cause this problem, this is my first supermoto,i've allways had sports bikes that i jump on and they go,my last bike was a 05zx10r fully loaded, and i used it for trackdays and some road work,i never had any probs with it..

what im getting at is i hate things that are unrelieable,i know that these bike need a lot of looking after and i look after my bikes, but im racing this year in supermoto, and i have to say that im the only guy on a husaberg, dont get me wrong its super quick, but im left thinking why most of the grid are on ktm's..

sorry for the long winded message, and and spelling mistakes.....

you surely picked an expensive sport to compete in if that amount of money will make you walk away from such a beauty of a machine. The newer bergs like yours take no more looking after than any other brand of bike you are racing against that are actually competitive). it is a wives tale (and getting older and more tiring by the minute) that they take any more attention than their ******* sibling bikes (KTMs) if it is what you say, thats sucks, but it is not terrible, and once fixed you will have a better bike than any of the others out there.

Gearbox!!!

G'day,

Just food for thought, but I have a mates 05 YZF450 that I am rebuilding, that seized after 3 or 4 kicks.
Complained of losing power and over heating, so bike was switched off for a while, then upon trying to start again, it locked solid.

As I stripped it, it wasnt the piston as first thought, or bent valve or anything, but the mains bearings had seized. Once the head was off and cam chain in my hand, I tried again and it rotated using wrench on the crank shaft.

in the end, bearings were shot, and real notchy to turn over.

I am not saying it isnt the gearbox, but sometimes you just need to strip it to diagnose properly, and it doesnt cost you anything, but a bit of time!!!

By the way, how much are the ally fuel tanks worths!!!!! I reckon at least double what repairs are!!

Hope things work out,

Jamie.

that looks like a nice whosaberg .. i would consider parking it for a while and really think about
what to do . you have spent $$$ and time into it , if you sell it you will lose big time .

consider taffys offer .. give him the tank if he fixes the thing and you pay for parts .

this is my opinion .

As Jamie says, get the spanners and allen keys out and pull it apart. it really isn't that hard.
Even if the gearbox is screwed it's gotta come outta the bike and be pulled apart so you'll save money on labour.
Anyway the 3-400 pounds you were quoted for someone to fix it sounds OK to me.
Don't be delusioned that the Kato's are anymore reliable than a Berg - you can put this to the test if you like but you'll be disappointed.

I know this conversation has turned into a question of mechanics but if you're advertising something for sale would you please put it in the classifieds section.

dunno gotta be worth £2600,its a 2007 bike with not a lot of miles on it...

im definately breaking or selling, made my mind up im going back to a sports bike...

it could be gearbox - as in it is a bit of a regular occurence but it's just that the kickstart in the petrol station isn't the usual place for it....

well i get fed up with asking people to put their location and machine in their signature so we all have things that jibe us!

in 6.5 years i''ve never seen a moderator other than json have to put up summink! doesn't that just say what a great site this is?

now "550" you need to pull the clutch assembly completely and when you have done that you can grab one end of the gearbox and try and spin it and see the gearbox sprocket turn on the other side. it'll be possible to put it back together yourself. all you need are "external" pin-nose pliers and you can do it yourself.

Taffy
