Aussie version of Moab

Might be a silly question but, is there an Aussie version of Moab currently down under ??

I've been reading all the posts from "Moabers" & it's starting to make me slightly jealous. Surely in this wide brown land of ours there's something of the equivalent ?

Anyone going to the Australian Safari from Kununurra to Perth later this year ??

Wal

Most berg owners are spread all over the country - where would you think is the best place to do it ??

Sounds like a good idea fellas, may take a year to get prepared for and raise some interest. (raise enough money to get to wherever).

maybe the aussie contingent could russtle up some support from Aust dealers?

Azza.

Maybe the aussie contingent might be able to figure out a ride in the future that some might want to hop on a plane and join them??

How many Bergs could we fit into a shipping container? Launch from the west coast of the US, and ride with the gang in Austrailia. That would be one of my life ambitions come true!

My dad had a '33 Jag SS shipped from NZ and it cost him about $6000 for shipping. I wondering about Carry-on?

The bloke I have bought my bike off ( still waiting for delivery ) is "right up there" with the importers of Husabergs into Australia. He has a trailbike safari business & regularly holds dealer rides for KTM & alike. Here's the downside...he's in Western Australia.

He is actually in Perth at the moment trying to organise logistics for the Australian Safari & I believe is going to see the importers of the mighty 'berg which are there also. I'll give him a ring & see if he can generate any interest from the top down !

I got an unbelievable freight rate on my bike from Perth to Brissy so maybe this could be shared around if the numbers were there. Might mean packing them into the new bike delivery crates but who cares if the price is right.

Might not happen overnight but its gotta start somewhere !!

Murray Sunset NP- the one you read about in all the magazines.

That way me and faktor wouldnt have to travel far, and would be the required incentive for me to get off my a&$# and put the 650 back togetger............

RE: Re: RE: Aussie version of Moab

We had 3 or 4 bergs at the motard track in Melbourne at the end of last year, thats almost a rally...of sorts. Well pretty good seing they were all motards.

Not too bad of an idea as it has some good terrain. Only issue might be acessability for interstate riders ? It is about 9 hour drive for me and that's OK. If in QLD or WA etc I would have think rail freight might be best option.

i would be in that , no question .

the only problem is i dont have a berg [ waiting for KTM to get their **** together ]

is it ok to turn up on a ??????

Logistically, it would be better held in NSW as it's as central to everyone as it's gunna get. If guys from QLD can pair up to save costs on transport & guys form SA/VIC do the same it would make it a little easier.

Seeing as though the guys from NSW dont have to go anywhere, we'll make them pay for an interstate guy's entry fee (just jokin ! ). Probably only needs to be a 3 day ride during the week so to allow travel on the weekend or vice versa.

Too easy really !!

All we have to do is find somewhere in NSW ?

sounds good wildman,

needs to be a good area for campin' and needs to be in one of the wetter months so that you can have a campfire at least. (fire is a dirty word nowdays in reference to camping).

I thought that Alice Springs on the week of the Finke Desert Race would be good, get some ridin' in, maybe try out the finke track over two days. and take in the race itself.

mind you the Aussie safari would be good too.

(if Oz could arrange the Creb track in FNQ (far north queensland) that'd be enough to bring the rest of the husaberg world to Oz?? - 8 days of torture, terror gettin to Cape York).

Hi Gang,

Sounds like a great idea, much like the one I floated at the time of the last Moab to stunned silence.

I'm keen, and will travel. I currently have two Bergs so one is available for a guest from OS or elsewhere. I also have a couple of 250s to putt on as well.

If there is interest, I can host it at my place at Numeralla, near Cooma, which is south of Canberra and easy for me to get to. Lots of riding in my yard as well as the hills aound home and down to the coast, 100s and 100s of kms. We can also use the community hall in the village if that seems like a good idea. I also have, just up the road, my local Club's MX track and enduro complex. In other words no shortage of riding for a weekend, or a week.

I'd suggest pick a date and everyone work towards it, June, or October long weekends perhaps?

Also Louee riding park is a great venue, near Mudgee west of Sydney. Accommodation, MX and NT tracks, 10,000 acres of trails all on private property. Particularly good if you like rocks, and fairly central for East Coast Oz

Whaddya reckon?
Steve.

Hey Steve,

sounds to me like you just dobbed yourself in for some homework ! I agree with awilksch that it probably needs to be in the cooler/wetter months as it's no fun riding in 30+ degree (c) heat with a mouth full of dust.

I checked the member map & Mudgee would be about the most central place to all members listed. The other thing it seems to have going for it is it's already a riding park by Steve's description. Numeralla is about 6 hours south of Mudgee so its further for the interstate guys but might have advantages cost wise as no liability insurance would need to be considered ( or would it ? ).

Some input from our Husaberg brothers who organise Moab would be well received with regards to advantages & pitfalls they have encountered with that event. I doubt if this thing could get off the ground this year but no reason we couldnt all be sitting around a campfire next year enjoying a bevy or three !!

Wal

PS; anyone know who the nearest Husaberg dealer is to these locations ?

Suttos in Penrith is probably the closest to Mudgee, and I believe is Oz's biggest Berg dealer. Could be one in Orange or Bathurst, in fact looks like one in Orange, http://www.husaberg.com.au/dealer.php?sort=&bike= Gecko in Canberra is the closest to Numeralla and I used to be mates and go riding with the owner until I brought a bike from him. I brought my new 650 last month from Suttos.

There are other riding parks around, but I've only been to Louee and it definitely would be suitable, especially as it is all on private property and therefore rego is not an issue. Some info here http://www.trailbikerallys.com.au/parks.htm
THe other advantage Louee provides is that it doesn't necessarily need an orgainised ride, or riide leader with local knowledge, as trails are arrowed and tracks are all directional. Ride, start and stop as you please.

Steve

aussie berg ride

yep count me in please!
bear in mind that some of us have unregistered bergs so this may restrict where we can legally ride. this is a totally awsome idea though id sell my grandmother just to get there!

Louee sounds fantastic, would be able to include all the motocross riders as well, though I'd expect that there'd be mor enduro pilots.

Did'nt Dirt action to a 450 enduro shootout at Louee last year? they did a DVD of it... could be wrong... I'll have to ferret through all my promo DVDs now...

I reckon if it were next winter I'd be able to get there, about a year to save up and such..
