Are you on the fence about getting an Ohlins for your 09-10?

Are you thinking about getting an Ohlins for you 09-10 Berg but are just having a hard time justifying it?

Then don't ride a BMW 450X. It has a linkage-less Ohlins on the back. It is a VERY nice rear suspension. The rest of the package is just OK, but man is the rear end planted. The one I rode was not even tweeked from stock. Ugh...... It would go up hills with baby head rocks on it without even missing a beat. Through brake bumps it just stuck to the ground. Very nice.

its nice to hear a positive ride report about the BM

the BM has the sprocket on the s arm pivot which is the main difference between it and other bikes

AFAIK the Ohlins shock is just a standard ohlins PDS one, not a TTX.

the advantage for the berg is that the ohlins PDS system is different to the WP and the added plus is the TTX design makes cavitation impossible so no matter what the terrain or how hard you push, the shock always does the same thing, perhaps its not the best thing sometimes but its always the same thing.

I find it gives you enormous confidence in the bike making it a lot easier to ride fast.

It was interesting. I honestly had very low expectations. I came away thinking it would be a very good trail bike and a GREAT dual sport (they are road legal here). I would like to get some more time on it to see what it can really do.

So you think the rear suspension behavior is primarily from the swingarm setup? I was thinking about it and it would make sense.

yes i do think it should make an enormous difference to the bike

it should be plusher under acceleration or up hills, small logs etc

the negative is the throttle can't help with clearing obstacles or jumping so in situations like this or with high grip and or a big engine the chain pull moment can't push the wheel down. this might make the bike wallow around more than it should mid corner under application of power and hard to clear stuff if you need to get airborne.

but from me not having ridden one this is all just speculations and stuff

nice review

Yup. Just like you said. I didn't get a chance to try all of it though. Need more time.......

It is not a light motorcycle. It liked to carve quite nicely, but I would not want to make it do something mid turn in a hurry. Definitely not a point and squirt bike.
