Any tall folk out there on the newer models? Mods?

I am (was) 6'4 245 lb. 53 and I have decided to buy a new bike and set er up for trailing.
I have a 2004 550 FE that I bought new and like the motor on, but, I didn't put the $$ into the suspension to make it right.
Even so I was thinking of raising the bars and dropping the pegs to make it easier to stand on the bike.

As I am combing the reviews to see which model would suit my riding style I seem to come up with a common consensus that the newer bikes are set up for persons of a shorter stature (and weight) then previous years.
The weight factor should not be a problem since I will do the suspension this time 4 shore!

My guess is that all 3 of the FE models are similar in height so that won't be a deciding factor.
2010 are going for -$2000 than the 2011's and are plateable with a few mods.
I want to dual sport whatever bike I get.

Any tall"er" persons addressed the height issue?

My last ride it took me three days to be able to walk down the stairs without "feeling" it in my quads.
Man it sucks getting old! :moan:

How tall can a riser go before it weirds out the handling?

Should I defect to the orange side?
:war:

Thanks for any input in advance.

Maybe I am just weird, but I am tall/big (6'6" 260#) and I have no problems with being cramped.

But I think it varies from person to person. I have a 32" inseam, whereas most people my height (or shorter) have a longer inseam, so that may contribute to the feeling of being cramped. I also have the Guts tall seat - not because I wanted the seat taller, but because I wanted more padding than the stock seat which seemed way too hard to me. Indeed, I have a difficult time getting on the bike much of the time it is so tall.

So, if you have long legs, you can get at least another couple of inches with a tall seat and lowered pegs.

*DEFINITELY* get the suspension done! I just had mine done and I should have done that right from the beginning. I am 80 pounds over the target weight (185 the upper limit of the stock springs?). It makes a world of difference - not just how well the suspension works, but how the bike handles. I am no longer fighting the bike and I am floating over stuff that upset the bike before.

The next thing I need is to get taller bars and/or risers. I can't stand easily with the stock bars, even though with the steering damper they are 0.75" taller now. I've tried taller bars on another Fe570 and it is much easier to stand with them. I might also lower the pegs - one thing at a time.

As for plating, only the 570 is plateable in 50 states (USA) including Calif. - so bear that in mind. I have seen the others plated, but it varies by state and how lucky you are. The 2011 570 is EPA/FMVSS certified.

Thanks, CodeMonkey,

I feel so much shorter now :).

I am the similar, about 32" pants inseam and 33.5 dead balls on.

I guess you will need one hell of a riser!

I have the Guts tall seat on my 2004 and I know what you mean. I slid out in a mucky gully rut weekend before last and ended up swapping side to side. Saved it but my feet barely could touch the ground with the wheel raised so it was lucky save.

The new Husaberg is more cramped that the previous version, no way around it. Taller bars up to a point are good, but too tall of a set up will hurt your sit down cornering speed. I run my bar clamps in the #3 position. I have the factory tall seat, and it is good. I don't lower pegs as I've seen too many ugly foot injuries already. It's a safety risk for me.

I am 6'3" about 200lbs.

All I run is a factory tall seat. I run a little bit taller bars, but only because I like the bend better. I also run my bars in the middle of the clamps, not cranked forward.

This is how I get a little more leg room.

I just bought some 4.75" rise bars. That should give me about two more inches rise.

Not to be to big of a dork, but I am... 6'4 225, 34" inseam. I'd like a little more comfortable seat. I know I'm supposed to be standing, but my body's pretty beat up, I like my seat time too. Is the Guts tall seat anymore comfortable? I did add bar risers and my go to a CR high bar as I like them and the risers on my KX450. I just got the 1 hr break in and service I really haven't spent any track time on the bike, so far it feels good as I tooled around breaking it in  .

I think the Guts seat is more comfortable, but YMMV. Seating positions, arm reach, wind protection (on street bikes), helmet shapes, peg position - lots of things are variable and depend on the person. But yes, the Guts seat has more padding - the stock seat is too thin and hard IMO.

BTW, have your suspension re-sprung and re-valved for your weight by a professional suspension tuner, you will notice a big difference. The stock suspension is setup for a rider 40 pounds lighter than you are and it makes a difference not just in handling, but comfort too, especially sitting down. You will also be more likely to want to stand when the bike is handling correctly, also the bike will not wear you out so you have more energy to stand.

My body is beat up too - and I am out of shape. This is one reason why I got a dirt bike; to keep me riding year round and to get back in shape.
