your sprag clutch is shagged! I have just replaced mine this week $125 Aust. I was sick of it only starting when hot, even after lunch it would free spin, it will just get gradually worse. I tried different oils and it made no noticable difference, however I now run synthetic blend just as a precaution.
I do have a theory on how the sprag clutch gets to be this way; I beleive it to be caused by the wearing of the decomp mechanism. I replaced mine aprox 9 months ago and it was worn baddly and the new one (with the weld) still only just managed 30thou lift? And I noticed on the w/end ride that with the new sprag the motor(sometimes) will comp lock up but only for a second? And I think this causes excessive load on the sprag? Just my opinion anyway. So I guess I will have try and weld a stronger cam on the old one and fir that.
