Alcohol based coolants?

Has there been any discussion on alcohol based coolants? This is sometimes refered to as "permanent coolant". I know some car manufactures used it clear up into the '80s. The reason (I believe) they stopped using it was it vaporized and required more frequent topping-off. I was wondering how well it did on heat transfer compared to standard ethlene glycol.
Thankx,

We're going to give Evans Waterless a try. You need to get ALL the water out of your system or it turns into oatmeal. Great stuff from the reports we have been getting.

Once we finally get it in and put it in the bikes, we'll give you a report.

I dont know about the Evans turning to oatmeal 8O . The reason for using the prep fluid is so that all water is removed from the system. If there is any trace water, it will boil and cause steam and cavitation (just what you are trying to avoid).

That may be another "waterless" product I'm thinking about then. I'm just going on the word of others at this point, no first hand experience.
