99 400fe Intake Options

Just picked up a 99 400FE. Bike runs and rides pretty decently, so I'm just cleaning some stuff up and getting it back up to snuff. At some point in it's life it received a Mikuni TM40 flat slide carb. It's currently got a small (sub ideal) pod filter on it. I'd like to try to get back to the factory intake setup, and am curious if anyone here has any creative solutions as to how that could work? I've got a couple silicone hoses that should arrive tomorrow of different bends/ID's that I'm hoping might work. I'll attach a photo of my current clearance. Thanks in advance everyone! Apologies for the poor quality phone pic.

It was less than a year ago I ordered a carb boot for a 2004-2008 550 and it was still available. I was actually trying to "stock up" on parts for my 2005 450 but the boot was no longer available for it so I got the 550 one which was. The carb to frame boots are all very similar from 89 to 2008. There always seems to be one available on ebay and Taffmeisters has a used one in his inventory.

As these boots are now hard to come by I keep mine dressed up with 303 protectant https://www.amazon.com/303-30306-Aerospace-Protectant-Furniture/dp/B000XBCURW/ref=sr_1_2?gclid=Cj0KCQjwmPSSBhCNARIsAH3cYganq8p4oo8AGYlfqVxdYz26c0AkbHMFGdG1pmQrtgey9FOiUnCI2xcaAuTLEALw_wcB&hvadid=241927906231&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9031295&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=12508915725252211983&hvtargid=kwd-10358332&hydadcr=24662_10400876&keywords=303%2Baerospace&qid=1650327521&sr=8-2&th=1
If you want to get psycho picky about protecting rubber bits try wiping on some AT-205 Reseal to really help stop rubber from cracking. https://www.amazon.com/ATP-AT-205-Re-Seal-Stops-Bottle/dp/B000NVW1LM/ref=sr_1_3?crid=NJMSHXTN3GMR&keywords=at+205+reseal&qid=1650327715&sprefix=at+205+reseal%2Caps%2C159&sr=8-3

Any time I have the carb off the bike I spray the carb boots with 303 and toss them in a zip lock bag. After reassembly I wipe them with the AT-205.

Thanks for the info! I swore I looked through Taffy's inventory twice lol must've missed this one. You're not kidding about conditioning the rubber. I pulled the boot from the carb to the head last night and it's looking a little sad. I didn't have much luck in my finding a replacement (it was a quick Google search) so I cleaned and lubed it well in hopes of a little more time with it.

Updates for the curious! I struck out trying to find something factory. I ordered a couple silicone pipes from good ol Amazon and started cutting. Other than the poor cut quality (my fault) I think this will work out great. Ordered the 45 degree 3"-2" reducer. Fit is definitely tight. Could probably benefit from a 3.25" and a 2.25" but I'm going to try to run this.

What is that cable at the front of carb with the 90% bend ? What does it do ? Need less to say never had one of these.

That cable is for the choke. It's currently mounted near the battery on the frame. It will likely get moved.
