I’ve just finished rebuilding my 96 FE350 and went for the first ride today. I noticed oil leaking from the gasket on the bottom end of the cyl. I first torqued the studs to 44nm then realized from another thread on this forum that I should be torquing to 46ftlbs. I’m currently torqued to 46ftlbs and am nervous to go any tighter but wanted to seek advise on what my options are. Should I attempt retorquing to a couple lbs tighter? Add permatex for further sealing? or ‘oils cheap, let her leak?

Is there a way to determine if these have been stretched? Measurement from the bottom of the cyl to the top of the stud perhaps? This may be my issue as it seems since I've had it there have been fluid retention issues. Do you also happen to sell replacements?
Take it back apart and replace the gasket coating both sides with grey RTV/yamabond then let it set up for a couple days before putting fluid back in. Torque to ~35ft-lbs

Sounds like my studs are okay then, Ill give the gasket sealer a try. thanks guys
I guess the gasket sealer did the trick, about an hour of run time and no leaks. Thanks for the input.
These engines love Ultra Grey RTV with a couple days to set up, not a single leak on my 600 after complete case splitting
Yeah black is nasty stuff, I use grey for everything from cooling systems to oil pans, it never disappoints with proper prep and set time
