done a quick search and cant find it anywhere so here goes;

pulled the fuel taps today and found that the RHS one, which id call the main tap has no reserve setting, the filter pipe goes all the way to the bottom of the tank

whilst the LHS tap, the knurled knod one has a reserve built into the filter pipe of a couple of inches.

dont know if this is the same on all the 2006 onwards bikes as mines got the alloy tank but they are burg taps.

so you might just want to check cos it may mean you might be better off running with the RHS tap shut until you need to switch to reserve.

hope that makes sense.

none of my bergs clear back to the 98 models had a reserve. granted, they are all marked as having a reserve, but there's no elevated pipe. could someone have changed yours? i used to keep an old (79) ktm unit around that had a reserve. i thot they gave it up years ago.

well they might have been changed around as the alloy tank doesnt come with taps.

thought it might beworth mentioning as some of us may be riding around with a reserve capability we didnt know about.

just needs some one else with an '06 onwards bike to check their taps to see its standard or not.

i keep my LHS tap closed and the RHS tap open.
in case i starve on fuell,i can open up the LHS tap so the amount of fuel left on that side of the fuel tank can now flow to the carb.
IMO either way it can work,if you close the left side and open the right side or the other way round, you can create a reserve amount of fuel.
it's not much, you won't get far, hopefully just far enough to the next gas stop :)

please correct me if i'm wrong,anyone :)

ciao, hannes.

you're right hannes.
now be a good boy and drain your tank, pull the petcocks and get the info cypher is looking for. we're all dying to know. :sandwich:

I also keep the left petcock closed..
After a long ride the other day, i had fuel starve on my way to the gas station.. then i opened the left side, and kept driving.. i drove approx 5-6km to the gas station, and i was able to fill 9.5 liters of fuel on the tank.. If the manual is correct, the tank should be 10.5L (fs650e 2007), so i probably had 1 liter left!

This means that i can drive 15-20km on the left side fuel reserve :)

my 08s the same

My 450 is a 2008 and it has the same thing you are mentioning on your 06. I pulled the main tap on the right hand side and replaced it with the exact one from the left side so I have 2 twist taps (the KTM 60 shares this part number) This allows me to run straight to the carb from the tap between the cyl and the carb and keeps the hose away from the exhaust better. I leave the left one open (both came with the tube but I removed the tube on the right side) and when she sputters out (around 70 miles) I open the right one and I can go almost another 5 miles depending on terrain.

Hope this helps.

RE: my 08s the same

I ran out of fuel once with my 9 liter tank on the 650. Good thing it was 100 yds from the gas statiion. I got 85 miles out of it doing half dirt, half street. I now give myself up to 80 miles on a full tank, maybe a little less for loose conditions. This has worked for me good by riding no more than 40 out. I also have 2 MSR 1 liter fuel bottles. I can get close to 100 mi with them.
