2005 Fe 550e reliability issues?

Hi all,

I'm new to the site and am considering which bike to purchase in the next few weeks. It's between a KTM 525 '05 or a '05 Berg Fe550. Everyone keeps raving about the berg ( and also the 525), but I'm concerned with the reliability record.

I'ld really like to hear of known issues with the 550, especially from owners.

I've searched the site but haven't easily found a thread highlighting 550 issues.

Thanks in advance.

I wondered how long it would take you to show up here :)
Lots of good info for you here.

Welcome to the site. If you are looking at an '05 model, why would you be concerned with reliability? Where have you read or heard about reliability problems with the new 'Bergs? Just curious.

There really are no issues. The e-start on mine still does not like to engage properly when it is cold outside, but it just takes a couple extra pushes of the button until it starts.

This site is a wealth of information on all year models of Husabergs. For us guys that have new ones, our contribution here has been limited mostly to let everyone know how much we love them! No issues.

I have a KTM 520 also, and I have not ridden it once since I got the Husaberg.

The 2005 FE550 is by far the best bike I have ever had.

I have put lots of hours on various 04, 05 & 06 Bergs. I have pounded the hell out of them and the only problem that I have had is trying to get the grin off my face. These are rock solid machines and anyone who says otherwise has no clue what they are talking about. There is no doubt in my mind that you will be very, very happy with the 05 550.

Cheers

Only issues I have heard have been a few cases of crank bearing failure. There was a recall on the gear wheel torque limiter on certain 05 models.....thats it...on this site I believe there are only cases of 3 failures world wide.....04-up no worries!

HI all-
new to this forum, but thought I'd chime in on this thread. I just took delivery of an 05 550 last week. Finally got time to get 3 heat cycles in the motor. I'll post later when I have more time on it.

Gotta say- I absolutely love it! I may have found a bike that'll steal me away from roadracing.

Tom

Thanks guys for the info.

The reason I ask about reliability on an '05 550 is even though it is a fairly new bike, Husabergs reliability record of past hasn't been the greatest. I've really only owned KTMs (good reliabilty record) and a friend that now owns bergs swears by them, so I may be convinced to give one a try. Tthey definitely sound like an awesome machine to ride, it's the maintenance/reliabilty that's lingering in my mind.

Buy the Husaberg, get Dale's jet kit. Enjoy the bike! Only things you'll probably be doing is changing oil & checking valves occasionally. These are great bikes! I had three KTMs before this one, wouldn't go back!

The only trouble so far- the speedo working intermittently. I've done about 4 82mi rides. The speedo quit workin after the second one. Time for oil/valve adj. Still starts second kick (when I don't use the buttton). Seems faster now than new!

You might check the sensor distance at rotor.
