1997 WIDE RATIO TRANSMISSION

I have a 1997 FC501 and it has a close ratio transmission. I was wondering if anybody knows if I can just change fifth and six gear or if I need to change all the gears? The reason for wanting to change to a wide ratio gear box is because the bike is daul sported and while going down the road to the next trail head the motor buzzes a bit at 50 mph. So I want to change it to be the same as my 1996 FE501 because that bike runs good and does not vibrate very much at 50 mph. So if anybody knows how and what gears must be changed to make this a wide ratio transmission I would appreciate it.

You have several options providing parts remain available and you replace drive and driven gears in set. Most often one simply replaces the high gear set with that of the wide ratio.

CR 6th gear = .8400:1
WR 6th gear = .7407:1

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Dale

PS
4th gear has the same ratio of 1.0434:1 on both CR and WR transmissions.

Thanks for the reply Dale so I guess what you are saying is I can just change 5th and 6th. My friend has a gear set but 1st and 2nd are broke. So that is good news to be able to change just the high gears. Thank agian.
