Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am happy to announce that some partners and I are currently in the process of pre production testing of a complete subframe fuel tank that will hold apporximately 1 gallon of fuel.

This tank will be a complete unit, that is made to be a gas tank and will be a direct bolt on unit to replace your stock sub frame. All hardware will be included to connect your new subframe tank to the stock main tank. The tank will retail for between $350-400.

I am hopeful that within a couple of weeks, the final details will be ironed out and we will be able to start taking pre orders.

Dood!! You just made my heart soar like a hawk....! :^)
Dibs on one of them!

Cool! I"m excited too!

Dale,

What about considering this in your design process. Why not make a single unit fuel tank/subframe? You would basicly be eliminating the walls between the two tanks. This would eliminate the slow transfer of fuel, and seems like it would simplify the whole installation and fueling process. I have not had mine apart to see why this would not work, but it seems plausable on the face of it.

Most likely he is building an aluminum subframe and a welding an aluminum tank within it's borders. Essentially hybrid monocoque. If my guess is way off Dale, please chime in.
But that would be the simple way to do it without rotational molding and the expense of $40k in molds to make it work.

Would it be too much to ask for some badass handholds on it, too lift the rear end up?

It may be a little while before the tanks are designed and mfgd. Is anyone going ahead and trying to seal their stock subframes?

Hi All,

Well I was talking with my dealer who was talking with a Husaberg rep who was talking with some other Husaberg group and then I heard from my cousins 2nd nephew not related who races a Husaberg that apparently it is not recommended to turn the current subframe into a fuel tank. Too many possible leakage points and too thin a material. Additionally, they also heard that someone is working on a 'bladder' system that can be inserted into the subframe and rumors were flying that Husaberg will actually have an after market hard parts fuel tank available to replace the subframe....but hey it's all BS until its in my hot little hands.

Cheers, Digs

Digby, is that you? I heard you got a 'berg. Are you going to Utah this spring?

Clay.

yeah we have converted 5 '09 bikes now and all work well.

We have a conversion kit & instructions for sale if anyone is interested
Gazza,
Congrats on Dakar, great effort. My days of Safari s and rallye s are behind me now (48 years old with a 2 year old daughter . . . ), so I can only watch on with envy, and a bit of nostalgia.
Now to the point. . . . I have an '09 570 FE, and riding hard or in soft sand, 100kms sees the tank bone dry, and if I baby the thing (!) only good for about 140 . . . . .so what's the situation with the subframe tanks ?
Happy to go it on my own (built and prepped all my own Safari bikes, and currently building a new one. . . . oh, and an alloy framed road-legal CR500, so no slouch in the workshop. . . .) but if someone else has done the background research, well, I'd rather save myself some leg work . . .

Was out at the Molders again today, good progress. I will post in the other thread that I have running updates on in the next day or so with pictures and explanations.

Get Dale EO's new subframe tanks when they come out soon, my wallet is burning a hole in my pocket for about 6-8 of them for this years Safari team as soon as they hit production.

Our modded subframes work well...........BUT a designed tank is a much better option.

Waiting anxiously for the new sub frame tank.
When will you be able to ship the modded gastank to Europe?

Re: What happened to the subframe thread

I must be going crazy search all manners: via google, advrider.com but i cant find details on plumbing the stock subframe.

Even Gazza's hyper link below to this berg forum doesnt work.

if anyone knows any good thread on completing the mod, i am desperate and of course running out of time to prep for an amazing long distance D/S ride.

thanks
jeremy

Be gald to help but my Dakar bike is now enroute to Argentina.

Have a look at this thread, near the start of it are photo's from one of the first Aussie guys to do the conversion.

We followed his lead and are now on Mk III setup that we used on the Dakar bike, its the best with its own tap at the bottom of the subframe tank to control usage. I will be using the subframe tank as my reserve tank leaving it full and off unless needed.

we only use the one breather at the top and loop a hose back along under the tank to T into the main front fuel cap breather hose, but lots of options with this, just do what suits you

we actually use the breather that is closest to the ECU the one marked not needed and dont use the other one, this then gives a flatter route exiting rearwards for the breather hose.

it is very tight under the bottom to link the 2 tanks together but can be done with a coil of hose to allow enough hose to have movement in the front tank and get accesss with your hand.

CRITICAL ISSUE

make sure you flush the subframe a few times with fuel after putting the fittings in before putting back on the bike, it will have bits of plastic and a powdery coating that needs cleaning out. On some of the early ones we did we had the injector getting blocked, the OEM in-line filter in the tank is not good enough by itself, so we use a CanAm quad bike external fuel filter and more importantly one of these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HUSABERG ... ccessories

and since then have never had any fuel contamination or blockage issues

the fuel pick up and transfer is similar to the photos on the thread

in January will take some photos of the Dakar setup, its really good now !

it is a little slow to fill the subframe tank but not that bad, on one bike we put another filler cap on the top left just behind the seat but it only saved say 30secs a fill

Re: What happened to the subframe thread

Major thread revival here.

Because the 70 degree tanks are no longer available and hard to source second hand, I'm looking at doing the DIY subframe mod.

I'm going to put oil in it however, for a long distance adventure ride.

Looking at using this stuff - Scotch Weld PR100 http://solutions.3m.com.au/3MConten...assetId=1319230012978&blobAttribute=ImageFile

Recently broke world record for holding 8 tonne for over an hour with a contact surface of just a 7cm diameter circle...

Wondering whether you could plumb the sub frame tank as an oil reservoir, or would the oil melt the plastic?

Hi guys

Can't see the pics of Sabink, got a blue square with interrogation mark inside???

Try to open it with safari / Google chrome / opera / ect... doesn't work???

Any tips?

Thank

Wawaron

Hi guys

Is by chance someone can drop few pics of the DIY pumbling fuel system
I'm trying again (first time was just working too good, petrol was fowing non stop throug the vent gas hose).
But this time, i will try to insert a spare fuel pump in it ready to plug, (just in case)
I can't see the Sabink pics anymore???
Thank and merry Xmas
