It doesnt lock the crank in the tdc position  Why husaberg why ? Thats the only way to check tdc witout jamming something down the spark plug hole. Setting the cam to the bolt put the cam timing ******** by 45 degrees :cuss: 15 grand. 15 ******* grand, a small car costs 15 grand....... shoulda just jammed a screwdriver down its hole in the first place  Real ******* technical

Try a drinking straw ,screwdrivers have a habit of wrecking stuff.

Yes they do wreck stuff, I was probably going overboard trying to illustrate a point. The point is why go to the trouble of making the hole for the locking bolt anywhere but tdc ? Like I said that hole is the only indicator of TDC, and to stick a screwdriver let alone anything else indise the cylinder to get approximately TDC isn't very 2010 is it ?

Same thing on the late model LS1 Chevy Small Block V8's, no Timing marks anywhere. I used a Chainsaw Piston Stopper thing that screwed into No1 Spark Plug Hole. Then turn the Crank real slow till the piston hits the stopper. Mark that point on the Harmonic Balancer and a reference point on the engine so they line up. Then turn the crank the opposite way till the engine stops. Mark that point on the Harmonic Balancer to the reference point on the engine. Measure the distance between the 2 points on the Harmonic Balancer and halfway is TDC when lined up to the refernece point on the Engine.
I agree not very 2010 ish. I could not believe a small block Chev had no timing marks. No one uses a timing light anymore.

What is wrong with your engine? Did you start it 45 Degrees out and the valves hit the piston?

Re: 09 crank locking bolt

Hi davo, nah motor didnt start cranked it over and got one enormous backfire, knew valve timing was up the creek, it sounded bad whil turning over. Thankfully no damage

thats fe'd up

maybe the crank is the same as the katoom but the cases are different so it doesn't line up.

I agree. :bounce3: It couldnt be too hard to make another hole with a reference mark. At least it runs now, do I have to retension the head bolts now that it has been run up to operating temp ? I glued the gasket on with hylomar spray and gave it 30 then 50 nm. It will have to wait a week, I've picked up some work and now I'm out of time, is there any chance it will leak while I'm away ?

your supposed to retourque, mark position of bolts then loosen each bolt 1/4turn and then go upto spec again

mine wouldn't move first go after some heat cycles but i tried it after 5 hours and was about extra + 1/8th turn each bolt

I would change the oil real quick a couple times and clean all the screens to get the excess hylomar out

Got a fuct interweb connection again, do I retension hot or cold ? Cheers.

Roger that thanks a ton, at home now so a bit o shed time tmora and we're away.

I did a coulpe of heat cycles and retensioned the head bolts and sure enough another 1/8 of a turm was gained. Cheers bushie ! Haven't ridden it due to ingesting a litre of Queensland diesel last night. :drinking:
